I honestly forgot that VWs were still a thing. You never see them on the road or any dealerships.
><
Are you referring to VW beetles?
I see many VW’s on the roads. There are many VW dealerships.
I don’t know anything about ‘em, I’d have to ask my buddy.
When it comes to Rabbits he’s an oracle of knowledge.
Lol
Absolutely....there’s VWs all over the road, nowadays though all sedans look the same, all SUVs look the same etc.
No personality at all with new cars.
my limited experience with VW products is that they are complete crap ... i knew people who bought the first Vanagons and very day they came to work, they were cussing up a blue storm ...
my father, a traveling salesman who drove bigass Olds and Buicks most of his life bought an Audi during the 70’s OPEC-induced oil crisis, and the damn thing kept dying for not apparent reason at most inopportune times, like in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere ... this happening to a guy who was used to driving tank-like vehicles ... apparently, Audi used the German version of Lucas Electrics in their cars ... at any rate, he swore never to buy another foreign vehicle ... i think he eventually relented after he retired and bought hondas and toyotas ...
My next truck will have been built between about 1995 and 2005. No internet. Hard wired lights and electronics and no eclectic can bus*. *The way cars are currently wired is like your computers at work.
I have an 08 Silverado. Love it. I do not want a modern piece of electronic carp.
I agree...no personality at all.
Poor reliability, and damned expensive to fix.
I really enjoyed my 71 Karman Ghia convertible. So much so I gave it to my nephew.
VW also owns Audi, Bugatti, Lamborghini, and Porsche.
Exactly.
How about we pull out our carrier groups from the ME and let Europe have their crap go around the Horn of Africa?
The 2.5 was the last good VW engine if you ignore the Volkswagen routan which was just a glorified Dodge caravan.
I never liked anything they made that had spark plugs. But I do love me a pre dieselgate TDI. I drive one every day
Plus a large VW plant in Mexico...the last place the Beetle was made.
The can bus was first introduced in cars in 1986.
So you are going to have to go back further than that.
Or go diesel. A Ford with a 7.3 idi and 5 speed manual transmission will only have a computer for the rear abs and cruise control. Both can die and it’ll still run just fine. Even those were discontinued when the power stroke came out in 1994.5 (mid year switch)
Isn’t the 19% VAT the same regardless of whether the car is imported or domestic?
lol...VW can’t afford to do that. The company is in trouble, it is not competitive. The last thing they need is to have sales stalling in the USA.
Do they think we don’t have alternatives? I mean a Passat or alike? Pick one of a dozen, all arguably better cars.
“And they rebate the 19% VAT to cars and car parts that are exported.”
Can you say more about that. Do you mean they discount a car’s price such that a $1,000 total tax on an American imported car into Germany would reduce an $10,000 exported from Germany to the US to $9,000?
is this their final solution?
