‘California is not Washington’: Newsom asks countries to spare state from retaliation

California Gov. Gavin Newsom said he will “fight back” against President Donald Trump’s latest tariffs on Friday, instructing the state to forge “strategic” alliances with countries eyeing retaliatory measures on U.S. goods — and to press hard for California-made products to be spared.

“To our international partners: As the fifth largest economy in the world, the Golden State will remain a steady, reliable partner for generations to come, no matter the turbulence coming out of Washington,” the governor said in a statement. “California is not Washington, D.C.”

Trump’s tariff plan, which he announced Wednesday, establishes a baseline 10 percent tariff for every nation and much steeper rates for dozens of countries targeted for his belief that they have lopsided, unfair trade relationships with the U.S.

White House spokesperson Kush Desai dismissed Newsom’s plan, writing in an email that “Gavin Newsom should focus on out-of-control homelessness, crime, regulations, and unaffordability in California instead of trying his hand at international dealmaking.”

Fox News first reported Newsom’s announcement.

“We’re not scared to use our market power to fight back against the largest tax hike of our lifetime,” he said in a post on X on Friday.

Logan Act. Trump needs to prosecute him if he actually contacts a foreign nation and also advise that any nation negotiating with Newsom will have all their consulates in California immediately closed.

It’s a relief to see that Newscum has shape-shifted back to his real self. Some people were actually saying he was a moderate when he cozied up to Charlie Kirk.

For every financial break given to Newsom, that much should be deducted from Federal funds earmarked for California.

Newsome is an F-ing idiot ... when was the last time ANYONE has EVER seen a “Made in California” label on anything ... maybe on boxes of produce and one could infer where wine was made based on vinyard name, but there is no standard for certification against forgery ... besides, what country is going to segregate imports based on location in the U.S.? ...

No you won’t. Trump should repeatedly point out all the ways that California and Newsom are caving to Federal policy. Don’t even give the Left room for delusion concerning their ability to skirt trade law. The Left loved flexing their federal muscle when they were in power. Time to give them an unrelenting dose of their own medicine.

Seems awful close to violating Article 1:Sec. 10...
“No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation; grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal; coin Money; emit Bills of Credit; make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts; pass any Bill of Attainder, ex post facto Law, or Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts, or grant any Title of Nobility.

No State shall, without the Consent of the Congress, lay any Imposts or Duties on Imports or Exports, except what may be absolutely necessary for executing it’s inspection Laws: and the net Produce of all Duties and Imposts, laid by any State on Imports or Exports, shall be for the Use of the Treasury of the United States; and all such Laws shall be subject to the Revision and Controul of the Congress.

No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any Duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay. “

Some states are never in the news. They keep their noses clean. They get on with life and don’t cause problems for the rest of us. But not California. They must have their name on the front page, they screw up everything they touch and they are constantly causing problems wanting us to bail them out. Enough already. Just stop it. Sick and tired of them, their wackadoodle ideas and their voting failures.
