...the Torpedo was approved by Major League Baseball prior to the season, meaning that it does not fall under the clause of “experimental bats,” as outlined in the rule book.
While it anecdotally looks much larger than comparison bats, the reality is that a majority of MLB players have never used a bat that maxes out the 2.61 inch diameter, as the Topedo does...

“Its illegal. MLB bats must follow specific specifications.”
What specification does it violate?
To: Red Badger
Looking at the real pic makes me wonder about the surface area at its most curved spot (spot of most a cute radius), could that induce a spin upon contact? That could introduce next level fun.

“I think Al Kaline used a similar bat.”
Richie Allen used a 42 oz. bat with a very thin handle, which pushed more weight to the barrel.

We discussed this in depth Saturday when it was happening. Everyone that was interested would already know what the actual bat looked like. There were pics.............

By moving the center of mass back toward the batter, he can put more power where it’s needed the most, right in the strike zone...............

Yep, it’s much more likely that the hit would result in more strikes and more foul balls.

Yes, they redesigned the bat to put more wood where the bat makes contact with the ball. And it's completely legal! But of course people are whining about it -- it's the Yankees, so why wouldn't they?Sums it all up.

I while back I heard a podcast series about a similar controversy with curling brooms. Someone designed a brown that basically forced the stone to follow it making it almost impossible to lose.
Eventually a team of players and manufacturers came to a conclusion outlawing the tricked out brooms and creating tighter specifications

Max OD of the barrel is 2.61 inches.
MLB approved almost two years ago.
Physics + Lousy Brewer pitching.
