The withdrawal of all Russian forces from Ukraine would be one of the main conditions to lift or amend EU sanctions, a European Commission spokesperson said on Wednesday.
European Union countries renewed the bloc’s two sanctions frameworks on Russia for another six months at the end of January and earlier this month. Any changes to sanctions require unanimity among its 27 member states.
“The end of the Russian unprovoked and unjustified aggression in Ukraine and unconditional withdrawal of all Russian military forces from the entire territory of Ukraine would be one of the main preconditions to amend or lift sanctions,” the spokesperson said.

The EU leadership wants only war. They can’t even protect themselves, how to “ protect “ Ukraine? The EU is broke, busted, and disgusted. Just one look at the crumbling and fracturing EU bodes not well for Ukraine.
Give it up, just say it, “ we picked a fight with Russia, and lost”…..time to move on and try to save what is left of the EU. Fools.

Russia invades Ukraine, west helps Ukraine fight back with aid, but will never put boots on the ground, but then said until Russia completely leaves Ukraine, we will keep up our sanctions... Of course while at the same time buying Oil and natural gas from Russia the entire time.
Whole thing is a joke. If Russia shut off its oil and gas to Europe the entire continent would be in recession in a matter of weeks if not months. Sure it would hurt russias economy as well, but if this were REALLY a war that either side really wanted and believed it, this is what would be going on.. this is just a farce on every level.
That's asinine. They don't want war, and they certainly never wanted to have to re-align their economies and spend more on defense than they wanted to before.
What they want is an end to the war that doesn't end up rewarding Russia for invading its neighbor. A very simple, basic concept.

It was the single greatest threat to peace and no one knew how to prevent it.

Russia and the rest of Europe are not at war, which is why what is happening between them doesn't look like war. Essentially, that relationship regressing back to a Cold War state of watchful coexistence and economic separation.
You are correct that both sides have economic reasons not to cut off relations completely, but trade -- including energy - has indeed dropped substantially. Europe is going to gradually wean itself off Russian energy entirely, but it isn't going to happen overnight unless there is a massive shooting war.
In any case, energy is a global market. If Russia decided to stop sending all energy to Europe and sell to someone else instead, other suppliers would fill in the gap. It would be moderately painful for a period, but it eventually would resolve itself.
That's the smartest move for Europe, and even Trump opposed Europe becoming dependent on Russian energy. So that would be a positive development.

If neither side wants to come to the discussion table without untenable preconditions, the US needs to pull its intel targeting assistance and any funding therewith, IMO.

Just say it. Why not? I'm curious, because I just know you can't be suggesting that Russia would actually take military action against the rest of Europe. Not after all you Russophiles have been shouting from the rooftops that Russia is no threat to the rest of Europe, would never widen the war, and that anyone claiming to be worried about that is just a neocon stooge....
Wrong guy — I never said anything about books. Kind of ignored that whole part of this discussion because I had no idea what it was about.
The course of action you outline hurts only Ukraine, and helps only Russia. Putin knows this, which is why he has zero incentive to make any concessions of any kind. If the U.S. is unwilling to increase support for Ukrainian resistance - and Trump has made it clear that he isn't - then we have no leverage over Putin at all. So Putin simply holds out, knowing that all the pressure to make concessions is going to come down on Ukraine, not Russia.
