An Orange County couple who came to the U.S. without authorization some 35 years ago, raised three daughters and now have a new grandson were deported to Colombia earlier this week, according to media reports.
Nelson Gonzalez, 59, and his wife Gladys Gonzalez, 55, originally entered the states near San Ysidro before ultimately settling in Laguna Niguel and starting their family.
While the couple tried numerous legal avenues to remain in the country over the years, including appeals to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Board of Immigration Appeals, a spokesperson for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement told The Orange County Register that the Gonzalez’s had “exhausted all legal options to remain in the U.S. between March 200 and August 2021,” and were ultimately in violation of immigration law.
Their three daughters, Gabby, 23, Jessica, 33, and Stephanie, 27, all U.S. citizens, told KTLA that they were devastated when they learned their parents had been detained on Feb. 21 during a regular check-in with U.S. immigration officials.

There has to be more to this story.... Two children born here and they’ve been here how long? Color me skeptical....
“Why are their daughters considered citizens?”
Anchor babes.
Thank you.
Why aren’t the parents trying to legally enter America now?
Gladys Gonzalez, 55, and Nelson Gonzalez, 59, originally entered the U.S. without authorization near San Ysidro in November 1989, an ICE spokesperson said in a statement. Both were ordered to leave the country in 2000 after an immigration judge granted them voluntary departure, ICE said. Over the years, they pursued multiple legal avenues to stay, including appeals to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the Board of Immigration Appeals and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, according to ICE.
An ICE spokesperson confirmed that neither Gladys Gonzalez nor Nelson Gonzalez has a criminal record. But the couple “exhausted all legal options to remain in the U.S. between March 2000 and August 2021,” according to ICE, and are now in violation of U.S. immigration law.
Their detention has devastated their family, who say the couple had always followed the rules.
“They have never broken the law, never missed an appointment, and this sudden occurrence has left us in shock,” the couple’s daughters, who were raised in the U.S., wrote in a GoFundMe fundraiser launched to cover legal costs and help the couple prepare for life in Colombia.
“Good find!”
Thanks, I’ve learned that the just about any media story designed to tear at heartstrings has a backstory. This one was easy to find!
They were born here.
Working all this time, so no doubt fake ss cards. Bet they voted, too.
Sucks for Nelson and Gladys, but let them be a lesson to all illegals living in the USA for decades.
The Kids “GoFundMe” account
Should Pay Off Really Well.
I’ll bet they’ve had lawyers paid for by US government via NGOs. Lawyers paid a lot, and for years, by tax dollars.
Well, well, well...Catholic Charities rears its ugly head again.
I know it's tough, but reading all the way through the third paragraph answer that...
"While the couple tried numerous legal avenues to remain in the country over the years, including appeals to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Board of Immigration Appeals, a spokesperson for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement told The Orange County Register that the Gonzalez’s had “exhausted all legal options to remain in the U.S. between March 200 and August 2021,” and were ultimately in violation of immigration law."
To illegals.
35 years and never once thought about making it LEGAL?
Zero Foxtrot.
Three children born here. The couple has been here 35 years. The eldest child is 33-years-old. All three daughters are anchor babies.
That does not matter...yet.
Seeya.
They had 35 years to become US citizens.
