I think JCY was the guitarist/singer who was in some episodes of the first season of M*A*S*H.

Whoops. Nope, it was Loudon Wainwright III.

the Youngbloods’ hit song was written by Chet Powers:

One of my early 1970s favorites. In my photo school days, Jesse’s music was my darkroom music.

”Attending Massachusetts’ Phillips Academy on a scholarship”

That is Phillips Andover, school to US presidents and foreign heads of state. George Washington and John Hancock were associated with the school. Paul Revere designed the school seal. Very prestigious.

He made one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard Ridgetop, about living in the Marin headlands.

Saw him open for C,S,N,Y back in '74. I remember their show, don't remember his act, though.

(So why do I even mention it? That's what we do when we get old...)

RIP....but “Get Together” was one of the most boring songs I’ve ever heard.
I’d always change the channels with the opening bars came on.

I really liked his music. I was especially struck by “High on a Ridgetop” on his first solo album.

Yeah, I saw them in 72. Reason to Believe, One Note Man, some great tunes.

“Darkness darkness, be my pillow....”

A long time ago “Ridgetop” helped inspire me to find my own ridgetop in the Northern California back country.

I believe you are thinking of Loudon Wainwright III.
