Brothas and sistas do this all the time. Speaking proper English is one of the things the Smithsonian African American Museum defined as acting white.
I've seen interviews with Magic Johnson when he's in front of a predominately white audience and he's well spoken.
When he gets on a podcast with other brothas the jive comes out.
If Jasmine had run for office with the latest dialect vs the first we'd never heard of her.
