Opening song of his 1978 tour. Heard it for the first time. Had no idea-love on opposite sides of the wall. Had me mesmerised. Starts out low-key while the instrumentals took their own path. Finishes up tempo. An 'intellectual' love song-if there is such a thing..

Seems appropriate these days. 'The guards shot above our heads'. They weren't into what they're doing.

As much as I love the original, the Postmodern Jukebox cover is also a very good listen:

47 years later we get thethe fella who put it together giving us a tutorial on how it was made. All the background instruments you really couldn’t hear. Fascinating.

Part of the Berlin Trilogy.

And of course that killer Bob Fripp guitar whine.

When the album was released, the reviews were lukewarm, and the previous “Low” had been regarded as a better album. A truncated version of “Heroes” was released as a single and failed to chart.

I liked the tune at the time, and translated it into Latin as excepted for one subjunctive, was very easy to do.

Ego, regnus ero.
Tua, regina eris.

etc.

I like Bowie but when I saw they said the name of this song I thought of this one instead. Prefer it.

Tge magicians Fripp and Eno are the “special sauce” in this and the entire Berlin Trilogy.
