No sex scenes, no social media, no Hollywood parties…The Oscar winner is about to turn 70 doing what he does best, alternating action flicks with cerebral movies while remaining out of the headlines.
After the infamous Will Smith incident at the 2022 Oscars, Denzel Washington was among the first to come out and support him. “In your biggest wins, be careful, that’s when the devil comes for you,” he told him backstage. Smith said afterward that he knew that if Washington forgave his attitude, Hollywood would forgive him too.
The Malcom X star is a moral benchmark in the industry, and not just for Black actors, because he doesn’t feel that race is the linchpin of his career: …Washington has never consented to race determining the roles he plays. The backbone of his career was not designed for “Black men.” Julia Roberts lobbied to become his co-star in The Pelican Brief (1993), Alan J. Pakula’s political thriller….
Washington, who according to The New York Times is the greatest actor of the 21st century, could have had a very different trajectory without his mother’s intervention. Washington grew up in Mount Vernon, a suburb of New York. His parents, a preacher and a hairdresser, divorced when he was 14 and the teenaged Denzel was left in his mother’s care. When she noticed that her son was keeping bad company rather than attending school, she sent him to a military academy, a decision he considers decisive in his career.

Don’t his characters frequently swear like really really nasty sailors? He can do that, and stars in R rated movies but he really loves him some Jesus. Ok.
From Variety about the incident:
Denzel Washington Weighs In on Will Smith Slap: ‘Who Are We to Condemn?’
By Jordan Moreau. April 2, 2022.
...
Washington attended author and bishop T.D. Jakes’ leadership summit on Saturday morning for a discussion about his career and faith when Jakes asked him about what happened between Smith and Rock at the Oscars.
...
“Well, there’s a saying, ‘When the devil ignores you, then you know you’re doing something wrong.’ The devil goes, ‘Oh no, leave him alone, he’s my favorite.’ Conversely, when the devil comes at you, maybe it’s because he’s trying to do something right. And for whatever reason the devil got ahold of that circumstance that night,” Washington told Jakes on stage.
Washington was seen speaking to Smith, along with Tyler Perry and Smith’s publicist, during the commercial breaks at the Oscars after Smith slapped Rock for making a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. During his acceptance speech for best actor, Smith thanked Washington and said that Washington told him, “At your highest moment, be careful, that’s when the devil comes for you.”
Which characters are you referring to?
I don’t think I’ve ever heard his character swear.
If you don't rape kids and kick dogs you are in the top one percent.
And no, I do not "forgive" Will Smith. First because I can't, his offense was not against me. The second is because he is busy stabbing his career with a steak knife while yelling "JADA! LOVE ME, JADA! I ACCCEPT THAT YOU WILL SLEEP WITH OTHER MEN JUST LOVE ME!"
It's pathetic.
I felt a little uneasy how he was bragging about kissing a guy in gladiator.

This is all I need to know about Denzel’s character. It was not his, nor Hollywood’s position to forgive Will Smith for the public assault and battery of Chris Rock. Yet he was the first to come to Will’s aid, before the palm print on Chris’ face had even faded.

He was fantastic in “Flight”, you could almost smell the alcohol pouring out of him in the scene at the end when he was testifying at the hearing.
How is that log in ‘yer eye?
Most respected actor in Hollywood is kinda like being the most ethical whore in Sodom.
I see what you mean. Christians are simply prohibited from forgiving or even fostering forgiveness.
The Book of Eli is one that if I find it playing somewhere it’s hard to stop watching.
You’re mixing up your black actors. I think you’re thinking of Samuel L Jackson.
Article then says they remained friends after this party.

I definitely call his schtick “over-acting”. I’ll grant he’s above average, and I do enjoy his performances - but no way is he the best. The really great actors are the ones who can make you forget they’re acting and transcend their own personalities. Denzel Washington is always Denzel Washington.
One actor who I think is far better is Gary Oldman. He’s a completely different person from one character to the next. It’s uncanny how much he transforms himself into a character.
Have you ever considered you only are going by the media? If so, you should 100% trust what the media says about Trump.
