TODAY’S NEWS, March 4-5, 2025
Larry Schweikart
The News of Today is the History of Tomorrow
IN POLITICAL NEWS
1) In his first major speech to congress-—in truth, an SOTU even though he wasn’t serving consecutive terms-—President Trump correctly boasted about having sealed off the border, highlighted the DOGE findings and read from a ridiculous list of money from USAID, noted that we had millions of people over the age of 100 getting Social Security, announced a new office of shipbulding to counter the ChiComs, and overall made the childish chodeknocker DemoKKKrats look like used gum on the seats. One spasmodic lubricious insectoid of an annoyance, Cong. Green, who tried to interrupt, was given the heave-ho by the Sgt. at Arms. Then the remaining colostomy-riddled DemoKKKrats took to holding up stupid signs like “False” or “Pay your taxes,” presumably referring to them (”false”) and to Al Sharpton. When it came to the border, Trump said all we needed to secure the border was “a new president.”
2) Leftists like Matty Yglesias came out howling that Trump says so many “false” things, yet in fact Trump was dead-on with all of his claims. Worse for the DemoKKKrats, by looking like a bunch of Quaalude-laden urinal sockets, the DemoKKKrats played right into Trump’s hands by showing they aren’t capable of changing a tire, let along an economy.
3) Thus, 75% approved of Trump’s speech and 68% said it made them feel “hopeful.” Meanwhile, Republicans are enjoying a 13-point lead over DemoKKKrats as a party. Last night absolutely did not help the DemoKKKrats, causing DemoKKKrat pollster Mark Penn to say DemoKKKrats have “fallen off a cliff.”
4) In a temporary setback for DOGE and President Trump, the Supes (with the ever reliable Justice Johnny and Amy Coney Barrett voting against Trump) said that the administration had to pay out $2 billion in foreign aid already contracted. This apparently is another of the “Roberts wants it to do through the process” rulings.
5) A navy reservist has been charged with bribery for helping Chicoms obtain unauthorized military IDs.
6) The House Republican majority just grew by one as Sylvester Turner, D-Houston, just died.
7) Perhaps DOGE’s key finding is that we have a federal budget made (they thought) impervious to reform. Speaking of fraud, the EPA slush fund handled by John “the Pud” Podesta gave billions of dollars to charities started just a few months earlier.
8) The IRS is preparing to lay off as many as 90,000. Gooooo.
9) Elon Musk says the Navy was given $12 billion to build a new submarine . . . but didn’t build anything.
IN CULTURAL NEWS
10) Within minutes of being confirmed as Secretary of Education, Linda McMahon said she would preside over the death of the department and send it back to the states.
IN TRANSOID NEWS
11) Removing men from women’s sports got a huge bounce in online polling, hitting 64% approval.
IN ECONOMIC NEWS
12) Bloomberg says the clean energy sector is dead for now. Goooooooood.
13) As discussed here on multiple occasions, new pressure from data centers (according to Ryastad Energy) will push up gas prices and increase demand.
14) Forever 21 has closed its LA HQ and many other stores as women find out that wearing their clothes did not keep them forever 21.
IN INTERNATIONAL NEWS
15) BP is cancelling wind and solar. Now it’s also cancelling Hydrogen power.
16) A Brit professor warns that the UK is “explosively configured” for mass unrest and warns of a civil war. May be too late for Mediocre Britain.
17) My favorite lib, Noah Smith, occasionally drops his Trump hate to actually write something good, like this assessment of China’s inventiveness. Do they really invent “big things?” His answer is, probably not or at least not many.
18) An amazing piece here by the dean of energy historians, Daniel Yergin who notes that the Chicoms have no problem “supporting” green transition with materials that they sell to the west but themselves don’t participate; and that without question, the green transition required authoritarian or totalitarian governments to enact it (in the west). So my question, Prof. Yergin, is, “Was this a deliberate strategy by the ChiComs to force all their rivals onto a non-workable, inefficient, virtually useless green framework to make their conquest easier?”
19) Not sure this is what President Trump had in mind: Panama sold the former ChiCom held ports to a consortium involving Black Rock.
20) FAFO: The US just stopped sharing intel with Ukraine.
21) Yeah, Me-hee-co is just such a tropical paradise, as nine students on vacation were found dismembered by the side of a Mexican highway.
IN ENTERTAINMENT NEWS
22) DIsney has cut 200 jobs at ABC news and entertainment divisions. Good. Now do Marvel.
23) An abducted boy, featured on “Unsolved Mysteries,” was found after seven years.
IN CHINA VIRUS NEWS
24) RFK has paused a contract to develop a new China Virus vax. Goooooood.
I laughed too!
