According to a search warrant, obtained by TMZ, a Santa Fe detective who sought a search warrant wrote in his affidavit, he believes "the death of the two deceased individuals to be suspicious enough in nature to require a thorough search and investigation because the reporting party found the front door of the residence unsecured and opened, deputies observed a healthy dog running loose on the property, another healthy dog near the deceased female, a deceased dog laying 10-15 feet from the deceased female in a closet of the bathroom, the heater being moved, the pill bottle being opened and pills scattered next to the female, the male decedent being located in a separate room of the residence, and no obvious signs of a gas leak."

Gene's wife, Betsy, was found in the bathroom on the ground near the countertop, laying on her right side. The deputy saw a black space heater near her head. The deputy believed the heater could have fallen in the event Betsy abruptly fell to the ground.
The deputy also noticed an orange prescription bottle on the countertop, which was open with pills scattered on the countertop. It appears the she had been dead for some time, because the body was in a state of decomposition with bloating in her face and mummification in her hands and
Gene was found in a separate room off the kitchen. He was fully clothed and suspected he may have suddenly fallen, because his sunglasses were found next to his body.
The fire department came and advised they did not see any signs of carbon monoxide leak or poisoning.

We will have to wait until more information is available. Just because there is a dead dog doesn’t mean that a cop was involved.
For purposes of a search warrant, medically unattended deaths are considered suspicious and require investigation. Most such deaths are cleared after routine scrutiny by medical examiners and police.
Dog locked in the bathroom and/or closet? Unable to eat and starved to death?
She was dead for quite some time. He and the dogs were just living there with the dead woman? It says she had begun to decompose. That takes a while. I was suspecting C0 at first, but it is getting weird.
Marcus - was Putin involved?
It certainly seems like it.
This is entering “Columbo” territory.
Tea or Window?
Speculation: did the dog surf the pills on the floor?
But the open front door could be a lot of things. Looks like the cops are doing their job.
Or it was the favorite dog and she wanted to take him with her.
Ouch!
I worry what would happen to my dogs should I die. No one would take care of them the way I do. If it were suicide, perhaps they had no one to take care of the dog.
After I posted, I read another article that said the dead dog was in a kennel.
How very sad...make it to 95 and pass away under such weird and suspicious circumstances. I always liked Gene Hackman in his movies and he starred in so many good ones.
I have no idea what his politics were. He kept a low profile.
“Dog locked in the bathroom and/or closet? Unable to eat and starved to death?”
Another source says inside a kennel.
I heard they had 3 dogs and only one is dead that was locked in a kennel, maybe starved to death since the bodies were nearly mummified when found
Read it again. I never said a cop was involved in a possible murder.
“How very sad...make it to 95 and pass away under such weird and suspicious circumstances”
I am 78. If I am still walking at 95 it won’t be sad.
Live long and prosper TexasGator!
But we’ll miss you terribly!!
I’m five years behind you.
