LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Five years ago, the COVID-19 pandemic changed the world.
Many of those changes are now part of everyday life.
Medical experts say there’s still more to learn from this new normal and COVID’s impact five years later.
Ahead of the fifth anniversary of the pandemic, medical experts shared their thoughts, including where public health stands now
“We are better today, better as a society, better as health care professionals and we’re more aware of the factors that prevent our patients from getting good health care and focused on changing those factors,” said Dr. Amit Sachdev, Neurology Medical Director at Michigan State University.
Over 1.2 million people died in the U.S. due to the virus including over 44,000 in Michigan. Peter Gulick, Professor of Medicine at Michigan State University says beyond the vaccine, masks and the closing of schools and nonessential businesses were ways to help slow the spread of the virus.

I learned that people no longer in my circle are sheep, both friends and family.
I have a few that fall into that category, yes, but there were also others that liked being told what to do, so when I went against the grain, they buckled. Didn’t keep bringing things up because they knew what I thought, even if they disagreed. Some of them have even said, “You were right. I thought you were nuts, but you were right!”
