How many in state Georgia students matched those credentials? And I live in Georgia so I can tell you, not many.

In some scoring systems you get extra points for A+, also for taking college level courses in HS.

Converse of an A in AP courses = 5, an A in a Special Ed course = 3. As others have noted, AP courses aren’t offered in all high school subjects, so a 5.0 would be impossible.

The fact that all of these schools turned him down suggests there is something in his application that all of the schools saw as a negative.

Yes, that Asian surname.

More than the surname. Probably bad extracurriculars and bad personality.

They get points for AP classes, so GPAs are commonly more than 4.0.

This will be expensive for the schools to litigate.

Happens all the time. No lawsuit.

Some of these Asian kids come off like real jerks on their application. Like they say they wrote a novel, and write terribly, so it looks like they are just trying to make it look good.

I think extracurriculars can matter depending on the major. If your’re doing business management, then activities demonstrating leadership may matter more. But for purely technical jobs that do not have subjective components to the job itself, why should extracurriculars matter?

My son took (and tutored and taught) many AP classes in high school. He finished with a 4.33 GPA. His girlfriend, the class valedictorian, had a 4.86 GPA. My son wrote the valedictorian speech for her. She headed off to Georgetown to get a degree in math. My son headed to USMC bootcamp. He has degrees in Business Administration and Physics now. He makes a good living as a real estate broker, but spends his free time studying nuclear physics.

I have a great nephew who recently scored 1580 on the SAT and I believe he’s been offered a freed ride to MIT, if he wants it.

I concur ... there are a lot of excellent engineering schools in the lower 48. The deep South and the SouthEast have lots of choices. Stay away from the East coast. Screw CA ...

Schools can’t have a curve buster like him jeopardizing the college careers of their affirmative action students.
