Academic unions plan demonstrations outside HHS building, at med schools, to protest Trump research cuts

The science community is clapping back at President Donald Trump’s efforts to cut facilities and administrative costs that go out to institutions when the federal government disperses money for publicly funded research projects.

A cohort of academic unions around the country has called on scientists, researchers, clinicians, academics and “allies” to protest in front of the Health and Human Services Department building and at different universities across the country on Wednesday, calling it a “National Day of Action.” The Feb. 19 event follows protests outside the HHS building Friday, during which demonstrators locked arms in front of the building and chanted, “We are not leaving!”

Trump’s move to cap these costs at 15% has garnered criticism from both Republicans and Democrats, who argue the spending limit will severely impact the country’s world-leading research apparatus. But, while much of that criticism has been online and in the media, it is starting to spill over into the streets. […]

Union members from Johns Hopkins, George Washington University and the University of Maryland are slated to attend, according to the RSVP form. A separate online advertisement for the event indicated that additional protests would take place on Wednesday at Rutgers, the University of Washington, Oregon Health & Science University, the University of Illinois — Chicago, and other places. Fox News Digital reached out to organizers of the Feb. 19 demonstrations to glean more details about expected numbers, but did not receive a response. …

“Science community”, not as respected as they were 30 or so years ago before they were weaponized like everything else the communists touch.

Glowbull warming and “trust the science” BS of covid pretty much made them look like something Joseph Goebbels would have created. As a whole, they’ve lost the respect of most Americans.

Grants for research has always been corrupt. There is almost no legitimate search for truth, the money is only given to grantees who openly state their objective is to prove or support a specific political agenda through rigged scientific inquiry. And there are many ways to rig an experiment up to and including just making crap up.

I liked scientists of Percival Lowell‘s style. He used his own money. And, he inspired generations with the “canals” he saw on Mars!

When med schools openly say men are women, it’s time to cut their budgets.

Yeah well these people are broke. The system has been gamed to shovel money to people who will deliver the desired results. Maybe there was a time when the money people recognized real genius and financed the genius regardless of the outcomes - but not since WW2. Heck even Columbus was financed by greed, not the desire for exploration.

Trump is not cutting back on research money. He’s just cutting back on extra funds, with no specific purposes, that administrations get from the grants.

The system of potentially lush allocations for research overhead invited corruption because it was highly discretionary and was often used to reward friends. Fauci and Collins ran the federal medical establishment like ward bosses.

Demonstrations. How fun.

This is on Wednesday. Aren’t they supposed to be working on Wednesdays? Not really helping their cause. If they were serious about teaching kids, they’d be working on Wednesday and demonstrating on a holiday. Like ... today.

Dr. Raymond Stantz: Personally, I liked the university. They gave us money and facilities, we didn’t have to produce anything! You’ve never been out of college! You don’t know what it’s like out there! I’ve WORKED in the private sector. They expect *results*.
