“The Goonies” are officially back.
Warner Bros. has hired Potsy Ponciroli to write the script for the sequel, it was announced Friday — almost 40 years after the original movie hit theaters back in 1985. Steven Spielberg, Kristie Macosko Krieger and Holly Bario will produce for Amblin Entertainment alongside Chris Columbus, who wrote the original “Goonies” script. Lauren Shuler Donner will executive produce. There is no director attached to the sequel yet, and there are no plot details revealed yet.
Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Ke Huy Quan and Martha Plimpton all starred in the original 1985 movie about a group of kids who find an ancient map to hidden treasure. Directed by Richard Donner and produced by Spielberg, “The Goonies” made $125 million worldwide at the box office from a budget of just $19 million. It’s gone on to become a cult classic and was selected to be preserved in the National Registry by the Library of Congress in 2017.

Sit on it Potsy!
Hey now, don’t go hating on Howard. I have to admit, I saw that movie 4 times at the box office when it came out.
So, you were the one.
Whatever it is, it's going to be....
Just to make money, nothing more.
When will Hollywood come up with something original?!
Hollywood has a long, long history of remaking old material and stealing others. how many times has Ben-Hur been made? Did you enjoy the Magnificent Seven...Samurai? King Kong the Third?
💯% agree!
I actually have it in my library..
You MUST watch it. (NO politics involved)
Just good acting from kids (1000 times better than ANY actors today).
Any really funny!
Just started watching it for the first time in 40 years.. the kids (including Corey Feldman) are leagues above any adult actor today.
I admit it. It is a guilty pleasure.
I even like Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, even though it is stupid as all get out.
