A note from POLITICO!

A Note to Our Readers from POLITICO's CEO and Editor-in-Chief

POLITICO has been the subject of debate on X this week. Some of it has been misinformed, and some of it has been flat-out false. Let’s set the record straight.

POLITICO is a privately owned company. We have never received any government funding — no subsidies, no grants, no handouts. Not one dime, ever, in 18 years.

Millions of people around the world read our journalism on POLITICO.com, POLITICO.EU, and in newsletters like this one. It is supported by advertising and sponsorships.

POLITICO Pro is different. It is a professional subscription service used by companies, organizations, and, yes, some government agencies. They subscribe because it makes them better at their jobs — helping them track policy, legislation, and regulations in real-time with news, intelligence, and a suite of data products. At its core, POLITICO Pro is about transparency and accountability: Shining a light on the work of the agencies, regulators, and policymakers throughout our vast federal government. Businesses and entities within the government find it useful as they navigate the chaotic regulatory and legislative landscape. It’s that simple.

Most POLITICO Pro subscribers are in the private sector. They come from across the ideological spectrum and subscribe for one reason: value. And 90% renew every year because they rely on our reporting, data, and insights.

Government agencies that subscribe do so through standard public procurement processes — just like any other tool they buy to work smarter and be more efficient. This is not funding. It is a transaction — just as the government buys research, equipment, software, and industry reports.

Some online voices are deliberately spreading falsehoods. Let’s be clear: POLITICO has no financial dependence on the government and no hidden agenda. We cover politics and policy — that’s our job.

We are so proud of our journalists and so proud of the connection we have with you, our readers.

We stand by our work, our values, and our commitment to transparency, accountability, and efficiency — the same principles that drive great journalism and great business.

Now, back to work.

Flatout lie. It is public at the government’s own spending award and grant site.

It was a slush fund using taxpayer $$$ so Polutico could get cash to operate their attacks on Trump for the 2024 election.
Everyone knows this now.

I guess there are analytics available which will demonstrate the usage and this value of this tool, or if it is a bribe.

Press Sec and others say $8 million

usaspending.gov shows 1,501 transactions/contracts from $5,688 to $388,720 — https://www.usaspending.gov/keyword_search/politico

I don’t have a problem with them offering the product for use by government entities and others. It is really no different than a subscription to the New York Times, which I assume even the Presidential Press Office has a subscription to along with other newspapers of record.

Politico Pro does not list their pricing online (they may have previously), but I find that is not unusual with some of these subscription services.

The fact is the Trump administration has decided it is an expense we no longer need to make.

“ You mean Politico pro is a front group for Politico, like USAID is a front group for the CIA.”
That’s great and right on the money.

Your take is off the charts naive.

This was money laundering and agenda driven abuse of public funds to give life support to failing leftist mass media.

Now we just have to prove there were kickbacks.

In other words, government subscribes to Politico to learn what’s going on in government.

I get it now, if you really want to know what the government is doing just buy our subscription and special access.

Otherwise you just get the same fake news we give to the public for free.

Order your government funded VIP pass now or you will be just as misinformed as the rest of our viewers.

The operative word here is that users pay for it. Not the government. If they want to be better informed they can pay for it themselves.

If Alex Jones had a “special service” with corporate and government rates and the government shelled out thousands and thousands of dollars to keep it afloat would you be ok with that—or would you suspect something foul was afoot?

That is why you should drop using AI.

From the government’s own site. Probably much more than this too. Just over the last 12 months...

Politico LLC

Total Awarded Amount
$8.2 million

The graph here is REAL interesting if someone wants to grab it and share it here... Almost Flatline from 2008 to 20019. Then in 2019 the government started throwing money at them with the most given to them in 2024. Then in 2025 it drops off back to nothing again. Coincidence it was before, during, Biden’s term and then the most leading up to the election? Check it out, it is so obvious it could never be denied...
