I’m trying pop os right now- I don’t know if you have to sign up or not, I don’t think so, only if you want to access internet in the os I think.

I like my women like my coffee, bitter as all get out.
Did you see the distrosea link I posted? Can try out different linux distress without creating live disk or installing. Kinds cool- though I am happy with mint cinnamon. I tried pop os, meh, not real,impressed with it. Maybe just because it’s unfamiliar.
Yeah, I tried gimp awhile,back- can’t get used to it- its got a long way to go to catch up to photoshop and affinity. Maybe someday it’ll be a worthy alternative, but for now, I use it mainly when I don’t want to reboot, and just for basic edits.
Thanks! I downloaded it and will try it in a bit. :D
Cool! Let me know how it works for you.
Will do!
And which is easy to customize (without having to sudo this and sudo - instead run sessions as root like in Puppy - nor spend hours searching and needing to learn and remember another "language"), like in easily remapping any key (currently, with stiff arthritic typo-fingers, I use AutoHotKey - in which ^ is Ctrl - to map NumLock::Esc
mbutton::^x
f4::^x
CapsLock::^c
f2::^v [used to be Esc, but that key no longer works]) And which includes hot keys to launch apps, open folders, run as roor, shutdown, etc.
And with compact expanding (each sub menu nested) Multi Level Dropdowns start and right click menus, which you can add to (mouse hover to see image, but which option for within Windows folders MS removed).
Likewise a multi Level taskbar, grouping by application ID (MS removed but Explorer Patcher and 7+ Taskbar Tweaker enables so far under W/11 23H2)
Thank God for what tech enables for good and God, regardless of constructive criticism of an OS. Also, a "Send to" (or "Open with) folder (hidden in %UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo) in which you can easily place shortcuts to locations and applications you want to send appropriate files to (just make a shortcut the SendTo and place it in that folder).
And which enables finding locations and programs/applications to the source of file via right click in order to make shortcuts ().
And with a compact extensive Device manager which enables updating drivers, as per Windows.
Plus offering extensive customizing of windows and menus, as in XP, including different colors and fonts for active versus inactive, adjusting border width (MS greatly reduced).
I surmise that a KDE desktop

Note regarding legal MM codecs, I had read somewhere that Fluendo sold solutions for “legal codec usage” for linux distros , but last week I asked Fluendo if their codec pack was still available for individual licenses, and their (sruta@fluendo.com) reply was:
Unfortunately, you will not be able to purchase new products. We no longer engage in B2C transactions, as our business model has shifted to focus on serving manufacturers who purchase large quantities of
component units from our Codec Pack.
So my conclusion is that the Fluendo codec pack is no longer available for individual licenses.
That will be legal as ogg is free for personal use.
Thanks, that ia a start, though this would be under Windows, to covert over 500 .wmv videos from the 700 club alone, plus about 900 .mp4, about 450 .avi, and .flv from other ministries and sources.
That’s what bash scripts are for.
And there are free media converters but i presume it presumes the vids copyright and or codecs patents do not forbid this.
And would I want a distro as fedora or Open Suse (I feel intrigued by that one) which (IIRC) does not come with proprietary codecs. For customization, I read that KDE Plasma desktop is the most customizable out there, maybe Manjaro KDE edition (based on Arch). Right now is when I may have time for this project, but likely not enough, yet I am investigating.
And this just in:
Microsoft has commenced the force upgrade of Windows 11 24H2 on eligible devices running versions 23H2 and 22H2. Windows 11 24H2 will force upgrade PCs on versions 23H2, 22H2
The dashboard health website’s status note reveals that on January 21, “devices running Home and Pro editions of Windows 11, versions 23H2 and 22H2 that are not managed by IT departments will receive the update automatically.” -https://pureinfotech.com/windows-11-24h2-force-upgrade-23h2-22h2/ cf. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/status-windows-11-24h2
to two hours for this Windows 11 update.
Thanks for the ping ShadowAce.

It is in the default Mint/Ubuntu repository. Install from your software manager app and it will also go grab all those dependencies it needs at the same time in one download operation.
But you probably already have most of those dependencies already. It will self check to see what you do already have and then only go fetch what you still need.
Well it is like getting a divorce. You just have to let go of some of the good things you liked to be rid of all the bad things. When it comes to this MS switch over to Linux sometimes you just have to also divorce some old games and apps and go courting new ones.
MS is counting on that “one game I can’t live without” to keep you enslaved and locked into the marriage.
“If I could get Quickbooks Pro and UPS to work on Linux, I would never use windows again for anything.”
Both can be done online instead. And UPS has API services.
