Note regarding legal MM codecs, I had read somewhere that Fluendo sold solutions for “legal codec usage” for linux distros , but last week I asked Fluendo if their codec pack was still available for individual licenses, and their (sruta@fluendo.com) reply was:

Unfortunately, you will not be able to purchase new products. We no longer engage in B2C transactions, as our business model has shifted to focus on serving manufacturers who purchase large quantities of
component units from our Codec Pack.

So my conclusion is that the Fluendo codec pack is no longer available for individual licenses.

Just convert (or rip your existing media) to ogg.

That will be legal as ogg is free for personal use.
