Canadians are in for another year of record-breaking heat, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC)'s latest report.
The Canadian Centre for Climate Change Modelling Analysis forecasts a global mean surface temperature of 1.45 C above pre-industrial levels in 2025.
It's slightly cooler than the record-high temperature of 1.55 C above the level in 2024, but the forecast is certain that it will be hotter than any year on record before 2023.
"High temperatures are forecasted to persist despite the end of the El Niño event that warmed the tropical Pacific and boosted global temperatures in 2023 and 2024," reads the report.
According to the ECCC, global mean temperatures represent the difference between the temperature for a given year and the global mean temperature averaged from 1850 to 1900, before most human-made warming.
This year, the global mean temperature is forecast to be between 1.35 C and 1.55 C. It'll be the 12th consecutive year temperatures have reached at least 1 C above pre-industrial levels.
The world saw record-breaking heat in 2023 and 2024, reaching 1.43 C and 1.55 C above the pre-industrial period, respectively.
"These unprecedented temperatures were driven by multiple factors, including unusually warm ocean waters and a strong El Niño event, compounded by the ongoing long-term trend of human-induced global warming," reads the report. "The record high temperatures in 2023 and 2024 were accompanied by heatwaves across Canada attributed to climate change."
Last year was the hottest year globally on record and the first year to exceed the 1.5 C threshold established by the Paris Agreement, an international treaty on climate change.
The forecast says exceeding this threshold in a single year isn't a breach of the agreement and doesn't indicate that the long-term average of global mean surface temperatures has surpassed 1.5 C.

The climate gang is toast. That AI press conference the other day was about energy. Trump cares about AI because it requires massive amounts of energy. He wants that money to be put to research and develop cheap energy. If the US can lead the world in cheap energy, it can call the shots while being the only game in town for AI.
The canuks are proving their lack of brains.
Please, will someone tell our friends to the North, to get their sticks on the ice and
end those lefty, commie, socialist dreams.
Since the climate is always changing... It is surprising that temperature readings from actual weather recording stations in Canada not in areas affected by the urban heat island effect show no trend either up or down in recent decades. Various statistical modi operandi which intentionally abuse the data is used to create an illusion of rapid warming.
Barely more than ten thousand years ago most of Canada was covered with a massive ice sheet. Canadians should be thanking God that the climate varies over time mostly because of theoretical but still not completely understood processes.
Canada should be for global warming. The wheat potential for the NorthWest Territories is enormous.
The year is only three weeks old and already they are declaring 2025 the HOTTEST EVER!!
Obviously if we would just nuke the areas where La Nino and La Nina form, we would avoid “warming”.
Brrrrrrrr!!!!
5” of snow in Florida’s panhandle and it’s the warmest ever?
Bovine Scatology.

My car battery was dead. I had to call Triple A. I was only in the cold for maybe 20 minutes while having the guy test it and put a new one in...my feet are so darn cold. And I have wool socks on.
Canafa, sell California melted snow water!!!
I want my 10% like the big guy gets.
There is no way to sugarcoat it, Canadians are stupid.
Basically, the whole population lives within 100 miles of our border because their country is too cold. And they are impoverishing themselves to make it colder.
They say this at a time when Florida is getting snow......
We were also supposed to have a “heatwave” of a winter - got 7+ inches of snow on the MS Gulf Coast on Tuesday and there’s still snow on the ground...
....and 10” of snow in New Orleans.
A +
A keeper for the propaganda files needs to be posted at their next meeting.
I’m sitting in lower Alabama at 8:53 am. It’s 33 degrees (up from 25 earlier) and I’m wondering if there’s still too much ice on the road from the snow storm we had 3 days ago to go to the gym. Not feeling much global warming right now.
With the wildfire pollution caused by the environments policies, they have shorten this timeline down to 2 years. All the burning homes, toxic chemicals produce by burning everything inside these homes, carbon dioxide released, and the massive amount of toxic smoke cause by the burning forests, their environmental policies have wreck havoc on the earth.
Actually, we probably should be dead by tomorrow since they have damaged the environment more than 6 years of manmade pollution.
