I can’t help thinking about the bacteriological wonderland those tiny toe beans dragged out of the cat box onto every food preparation surface of my host’s home to share things like mind-altering toxoplasmosis with me and my unsuspecting family and friends.
Don’t get me wrong.
I generally LOVE cats… I just can’t ever eat a whole one.

Are they able to make a determination of the likely age of the cat when it died, and if not then is it possible that it was just baby cat when it died??? Wondering.

The first thing that comes to mind is trying to get the cat’s DNA, find out what gene made it so small, then producing transgenic, tiny cats.
I bet you could make a small fortune selling them.
Kind of like the transgenic glowing fish they sell at PetsMart.

Ailouros is Greek for "cat." Prion (with an omega) can mean "saw" or "sawyer" but also can refer to a jagged row of teeth. So maybe something about the fossil's teeth inspired the name.

Never heard of a sand cat until yesterday.
