Why Pacific Palisades will never be the same after the California fires
Anne McCloy ^ | 1/13/25 | Anne McCloy

“It’s ok, you can just rebuild.”

“At least not that many people died.”

These are the things people say to try to make it better.

The truth is, Pacific Palisades will never be the same after the deadly January 2025 wildfires that destroyed entire neighborhoods this past week. The latest official update says as many as 10,000 structures have been destroyed in the Palisades Fire, which is expected to be the costliest in U.S. history.

Pacific Palisades, the small ocean community wedged between Santa Monica to the south and Malibu to the north, is a little slice of heaven. Our family was only lucky enough to have a home there because my grandparents bought property decades before the area was discovered by Hollywood. According to my dad, they purchased the home in the 1100 block of Hartzell Street in 1951 for $25,000. The neighborhood has since been home to some of the highest property values in the country, but this week’s unprecedented fires have left it unrecognizable, and its future is suddenly uncertain

Voting against one’s own self interest is the hallmark of the leftist imbecile.

Look to Paradise, Ca hit by a massive fire years ago. Population was 26,000, now about 4,600. A large part of it was trailers and double-wides. Google Earth it and you will see burned out remnants and little else.

That’s right because the democrats will replace all those homes with something they want instead, whether it’s apartment complexes, Section 8 housing, or their own mansions.

LA 2.0 is the liberal utopian dream. The fire was very convenient.

LOOK AT THE GOOD SIDE OF IT! The Smelt fish are doing well now the reservoirs and dams once used for fire suppression, have been destroyed and drained. and the brush allowed to grow for nesting birds and ground animals so the Greenies could go out and commune with Mother Nature and stop cleanups to protect rare plants!
Now Mother Nature has bit them in the butt big time. As an old advertisement used to say...”It’s not nice to fool Mother Nature!”

For one thing, you can bet they’ll be rezoning a lot of it for multi-family apartments.

I heard that's already in the works.

Watch developers buy up the land and put up high density housing.

I wonder if the HOLLYWOOD sign is still there.

It's still there--the fires are miles away.

I figure stack-and-pack apartments will replace the single-family homes. And then in 40 years, Pacific Palisades will be a slum.

I have camped at st. Joseph peninsula state park for years, loved all the old homes, then after the hurricane and a channel being cut through.
Went back last year.
All new condos, not a single original house left standing , channel cut repaired.
Huge marina gone.
100% different vibe, unless you saw before, you would be shocked,
Even Apalacholia is not the same and many businesses never recovered.

How would the feds suspend the State courts? Additionally, there are to many leftists judges that would step in and block any attempt to federalize state and local services and their whacko environmental laws.

Today we have inferior building materials. And Inferior contractor skill. And a lot less of all of it. And materials cost so much more. Any homes that are rebuilt will never be at the same level.

Most of Pacific Palisades is on flat land.

You can see that from the pictures in the original article.

Mudslides are not an issue for most parts of the area.
