Seeing this reports really bothers me. I can’t imagine what that boy was thinking during the attack.
I work with dogs - for real, in hospitals and places - and this continues to be a sensitive subject for owners of “pits”. Some get very defensive saying things like, it’s the owner, not the breed. Forget there is not such thing as a pit bull breed, but I point out you can’t trust this “breed”.
It’s always the dog never hurt anyone, the dog has been around for years, etc, etc. People just do not understand certain animals. I equate these to the pet chimp that went off and tore the woman’s face apart. The women thought the little monkey was like a child.
I see someone with a pit and if I’m at a park, we leave. You’re dog might be the sweetest thing ever, but they might snap. And it’s not worth the risk.

I tend to agree with your comments.
Jeez. All those guns in Florida...too bad someone didn’t put one to good use before it was too late.
Pics of the dogs here...
That second one doesn’t look like a pit mix to me, FWIW.
We had an AmStaff rescue. Covered in scars, I’m not sure what he experienced in his life before us, but he always seemed grateful for his new life. A docile very smart dog, but I did always tend to be very watchful around him.
I had a home health patient once, who had a very old, very protective Chihuahua. She stayed in the patient’s lap, and when I would approach the patient to assess her, the dog would spaz out, becoming a whirlwind of activity, going into rabid attack mode, while she attempted to restrain it. “Don’t worry”, she assured me. “ She doesn’t have any teeth! “
You can not tell the lineage of an animal just by looks. They can be mix pit and still look like a hound dog. I can attest to that about strays that I have encountered that I befriended only to see their behavior displayed later on as a typical terrier act. I have an elderly 15 year old mix that you would never guess she had Chow mixed in her blood except that she has a black tongue. So no, you can not tell just by looking at them.
I know that.
Like I said, it doesn’t look like a mix.
It doesn’t look it was used for dogfighting, either.
But I could be wrong there, too.
But I’ll bet LE knew about these dogs.
Hopefully I’m wrong on that one.
The problem is most of these idiots who own pit bulls don’t have a pot to pee in so filing lawsuit against them is basically useless. They need to be thrown in jail for life.
Some neighborhoods in Florida have a couple of them behind every chain-link fence. You couldn’t leave your house unoccupied, otherwise.
He was probably dead when they administered CPR. Seems like CPR would just cause a victim of extensive dog bites to bleed out.
“Your dog might be the sweetest thing ever, but they might snap. And it’s not worth the risk.”
Put Bulls, the Muslims of the dog world.
Irrelevant. You can bet the pit was the instigator. And the truly aggressive one. It definitely has the more serious bite.
As the owner of dogs it’s been my observation that when alone they are pets when together they’re a pack. I sometimes have to let them know that death has a 0% recidivism rate.
One day a resident with dementia came to his office, yelling about something. Bernice lept from the floor and darn near took her face and scalp off. Bernice had to be euthanized and he was asked to resign by the board.
Point being, a dog is potentially dangerous at any given time or place. Never dismiss that.
I distinctly remember this particular pit bull attack. Out of all the attacks that happen, I’ve never forgotten this one. It was the worst.
The range of sensory triggers in a dog are unimaginable to humans. Senses of smell, sound, taste, and even adrenaline can be sensed. It’s a constant job for that dog to “stand down” on 99.99% of those trigger urges. That’s not an easy job.
If I owned dogs who did something like this, there would be no need for the county to euthanize the dogs. Each would have already been humanely euthanized with a 9mm hole in their head.
I'm not sure what the owner thinks she is accomplishing by denying permission. It is only a matter of time before a court orders it. Hopefully, she gets charged for the court costs.
Same here look at the local pound and they were all “terrier” mix. Meaning put bull (terrier) mixes.
Pit bull mixed with what?
Dogs of peace, at it again. All degrees of pit bull 1/16th and greater need to be outlawed.
