Reports surfaced Tuesday that Israel is on the cusp of reaching a deal with the terrorist group Hamas that would include terms for a ceasefire and the release of some of the Israeli hostages captured on October 7, 2023. Experts say the two sides wouldn’t be this close to a resolution without the strong words and actions of President-elect Donald Trump and his incoming administration.

I think it was the MOAB dropped in Syria that let them know he’s serious. Solomani killed and there’s nothing they can do. He’s Bernie Goetz on the world stage.

Wouldn’t it be ironic if the Israel/Hamas deal was announced 1 minute past 12 noon on the day Trump is inaugurated, similar to what happened when Reagan took office after Carter.

This deal is horrible for Israel. Trump's so-called genius negotiator forced Netanyahu into an agreement that takes Israel back to 6 October 2023, with no guarantee they can protect the kibbutz from another 7 October 2023. They are trading 1600 terrorists for 33 hostages. But HAMAS can only find 16.

Many conservative Israelis and MAGA Jewish voters in the USA are pissed. They see this as Trump wanting to brag that he got it done even before entering office or he wants it done so he can focus on domestic issues. Many feel it's all about his ego, which caused trouble during his last administration.

The deal allows HAMAS time to regroup and rearm and returns 1000 fighters to the fold. Another 600 convicted of serious crimes will be exiled. We know how that works; they will return to Gaza in a month. As it stands, the people who evacuated the kibbutz along the Gaza border cannot return home because they would be in danger of another 7 October-style attack. After the fall of Syria, do not be surprised if Russia steps in to obtain a Med port in Gaza. There are a lot of bad actors willing to resupply HAMAS if Iran cannot.

A bad deal is worse than no deal and this is taking some of the shine off the Trump brand before 20 Jan. Fir the record, I did vote for the man and hope for better going forward.

People in the USA, especially MAGA people, are missing the point. Trump's threats did not help! They boxed Netanyahu in and pushed through a bad deal that could crash the Israeli government as prominent coalition leaders are threatening to quit the coalition over this deal. That will force a contentious election while still at war. Netanyahu would most likely lose. He has won praise over his actions post-7 October 2023, but there is a question of how his government allowed 7 October to happen.

MAGA folks are all cheering and bragging about how wonderful Trump is, and they know nothing about the deal and how unpopular it is in Israel and with conservative MAGA Jews. The families of the hostages love it, but it does nothing to alleviate the fears or guarantee the safety of the other 9 million Israelis.

To not break up the current government, hardcore conservative parties are demanding the firing of the IDF Chief of Staff. and an automatic resumption of the war in 43 days. They want the IDF to focus on destroying HAMAS, even if that means leveling all of Gaza.

Being powerful is only good as your willingness to use it. Biden never set a deadline or even implied consequences would follow since he wanted to court favor from both sides by condemning the violence. So the result was stalemate. Enter PDJT with a deadline and implied consequences. The result is a deal made that may not be the deal Israelis want but does return American hostages and, after all, Trump is America First. And is anyone under the illusion that this is the final act of the play? Hamas still runs Gaza in the eyes of much of the UN so this deal will not solve the Hamas terrorism threat. Israel must return to occupation of Gaza to protect itself.
