Really, really pleased about this. Smart move. Now LOTS of flags are going to go full staff.
Unless the US Flag Code mandates this 30-day period, I don’t see the problem.
I want to see the Stars and Stripes waving from on high for Inauguration Day.
It is a glorious day in America when this issue is on the national agenda. Itiots!! Who is the editor that didn't take this drivel and but it in the digital waste bin.
Carter was a half ass president soit makes sense. Mine never goes half mast unless it’s warranted. Most of the reason they fly it half mast now are emotional reasons.
As a very wise man once said,
“Let the Dead Bury the Dead.”
Drove by yesterday, on the way home from Ft. Lauderdale, and was happy to see the flag flying high & proud!
“Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday ordered that flags at the state Capitol and other state government buildings be raised to full staff for President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration next week, despite a White House proclamation that U.S. flags fly at half-staff until late January to honor the late President Jimmy Carter.
“While we honor the service of a former President, we must also celebrate the service of an incoming President and the bright future ahead for the United States of America,” Abbott, a Republican and staunch Trump ally, said in a statement.”
Good!
The 30-days thing is gross and offensive. We don’t elevate our elected representatives to some level far above other Americans.
And what kind of AP story is this? Because the Carcass of Joe makes some sort of excessive proclamation, “Flags are supposed to” be flown at half-mast for 1/12th of a year? Was that done for Reagan? Poppy? There ain’t a law that Trump must fly his flag so—and good for him!
Didn’t Truman order the flag at full mast with 30 days of FDR’s death on April 12, 1945 due to the end of WWII?
He’s unburdened by what was.
Only on government buildings...
“initially lowered to half-staff according to protocol “
Yesterday or Sunday someone posted here that the 30-day thing only applies if the POTUS died while in office. If not a sitting president, there’s no stipulation. Could be one day, could be a thousand.
I fully support Trump. But that is disrespectful. Attack me if you want.
Gov. Abbott of Texas has ordered flags to full staff for inauguration day citing flag regs that say to do so.
I’d give any president ONE Day of half-staff. This is ridiculous.
Jimmy Carter does not deserve that much respect.
“All this over a damn flag?”
30 days is obnoxious. We should not be treating former Presidents (or any government official) as royalty. Some of this pomp and circumstance makes me cringe.
We’re supposed to be equals. Government staff at all levels are supposed to be public servants. Not royalty.
