A visual glimpse inside the sheer scale of luxury and opulence of some of the homes touched by the wildfires. The video title says $83 Million but it had since upped in value to $125 Million in 2023, and was by this year listed for a whopping $450 Million as of the start of this year according to realtor.com.
It is/was known as The San Onofre Estate and was featured on Season 4 of the show Succession.

It has all the warmth and charm of a dentist office.
Is it a coincidence that the most popular part of the video was at 3:56, when the fire pit flames were burning in front of the scene of downtown LA?
Well, maybe the owners can apply and eventually get one of those $750 FEMA loans just to tie them over like some of those poor folks in NC got. /s
I think it’s a very ugly house, wouldn’t buy it at any price.
But the location is — or was — gorgeous.
Not to be too dramatic, but one might add ‘...or more’ and be right. Permitting from The Coastal Commission on down to the local building inspectors is bad enough as it is. Neither are anywhere close to being able to effectively respond to this situation. Suggestions, anyone? The long-term ramifications of what happens now will seal the fate of the City of Los Angeles. Losing this cohort of its population —it’s most wealthy— and assessed values for property tax collection falling from $5M X 5,000 homes (wild, rough numbers I just made up which would produce an assessed value of $25 Billion) to maybe a tenth of that, a revenue s——storm awaits. Super-wealthy Angelenos living in the hills are a significant economic driver for local governments (their personal staff, domestic staff, retail sales taxes, etc.), and demand for municipal services (emergency and continuing) just went off the chart. Bold, tough decisions lie ahead if we are to get things back on track, somehow.
I looked it up and according to hearsay on social media from those familiar with the property, it is apparently within lookout vicinity of Tom Hanks’ home and is shown to be burned down. While his is still standing.

Those are some butt ugly houses. No character at all. If you are going to build a mansion give it character. Make it look regal. Not some office building on the side of the hill.
Naw. Just coincidence. James Woods house being spared was a miracle and good property maintenance.

.......uh not all Singermom!!!Conservative and a major Trump supporter. Our area had more TRUMP signs than Biden.
I am a native Los Angelino! 83 yrs in Los Angeles.
What we saw this past election was a rising up.... but there weren't enough of us, and STILL much fraud that just was not able to be caught.
Hopefully these fires will help, but I truly doubt it.
This corruption goes deep and is a reflection of the evil hearts of man.
Unless we see a SPIRITUAL renewal and a turning back to GOD as a country, it is all going to go down, and fast!!
dirt cheap
Dry brush on these lots basically growing right against these houses. No defensible fire lines, but the properties look real nice. Until they don’t.
My next door neighbor’s house is valued at $6.3 million. It sold mid construction for $4 million back in 2016. No way I would want it.
It’s a beautiful show piece with 16 ft ceilings, all Italian marble floors built in a Mediterranean style with a tile roof. About 13,000 Sq ft.
I like living next to them as the 24/7 armed guards patrolling the property give me added security.
Between our homes is a pond with a huge fountain in the middle that I get to enjoy without any of the maintenance costs.
Next to it, my home looks like a shack, but I don’t care as my home is functional, made of brick, and has a huge finished basement, something none of the other homes in our area have.
sounds like you have a nice set up, and can enjoy the best of both properties without the burdens :)
The irony of the promo video is the emphasis on open flames in its last minute.
In the opinion of the majority of human beings who live or ever did, you ARE one of them.
That said, even absolute luxury can be a snare, a handicap, or a curse.
Okay, I went and had a look. Yikes, who’d live there, a math freak? Soul-less as a Bergdorf’s window. Way too many sharp angles, stairs like sticks. Nothing whatsoever that hugs you. I’ll take drapes, art, pillows, color. Gimme fretwork!
Nice view of Sodom though ;)
I am sorry if it burned but I’d bet it was vacant.
The ‘decor’ looks institutional.... not cozy
Who wants to live in a place that looks like an airport lounge or hotel lobby?
Those are some ugly-ass houses. (My opinion — not my style.)
“James Woods house being spared was a miracle and good property maintenance.”
Yes. He said that very recently (they just moved back in three months ago), they did major upgrades that would help mitigate fire threat. That included clearing vulnerable vegetation around the place and (I think) water features in the yards.
Truly dreadful.
