Either way yes it’s not up to us to make up for their wages.
Perhaps they should unionize or demand the government pay them min. wage. In Europe waitresses are paid min. wage. Maybe we need to go to that.

they make way more than minimum wage with tips and would be taking a paycut at minimum wage or even 15-20 an hour and no tips.
Used to be a pizza delivery driver back in the 90s. Got a tip about half the time, and usually was either 1 or 2 dollars. It was not tied to the size of the order except in one case where I got about 20 bucks for a huge order from a Frat house where the treasurer seemed to be applying the 15% standard. While I certainly was glad to take the money, I did not feel they had any obligation to give a tip and certainly not one that scaled up to a big order. No matter the order size, it was still the same amount of work to drive it there.
I do 20% unless service is exceptional.
