I saw reportage from an LA station last night that stated it had to be a fairly large drone because this plane is burly enough that a small one wouldn’t have done more than scuff the paint.

FWIW.

There have been multiple YouTube videos taken by drones posted in the last 24 hours.
Most by private YouTube channel individuals. Not like NBC news out of LA.

My guess is that if it happened at all that it was almost certainly from a law enforcement agency. The incidents that I am aware of in the past which caused actual damage to aircraft have almost all been from law enforcement drones. This is because law enforcement uses drones which are typically bigger, heavier, have bigger batteries, motors, and more equipment mounted to them than consumer drones.

One of my neighbors on the airport where we live worked for the Sheriff's department. In addition to being a deputy, he had a department owned drone that was kept in the trunk of his police car. He never paid any attention to the aviation rules when using his department drone from his home. It was larger than most consumer drones and he could fly it miles away to check out situations that the police were interested in.

Nearly all “toy” drones sold in the last few years weigh less than 8 ounces. Most of mine weigh closer to 4 ounces. The two DJI drones that I have, a Mini 3 and Mini 4 both weigh approximately 8 ounces as well. I have only one drone from many years ago that weighs a little more than a pound. Even it would completely disintegrate... probably without even making a dent if it was hit by the leading edge of a large plane or even one of the small airplanes that my wife and I own.

Strangely enough no pictures of the damage to the aircraft seem to have been provided to the media. I believe that there is a high likelihood that the story is completely made up as a reminder to people to not take pictures and video of the mayhem completely caused by this total DEI madness. They don't want pictures and video of the raiding parties from surrounding less affluent neighborhoods to make it into the media.

I see there actually is a picture of the damage... I am still not convinced that this was from a civilian drone.
