As winter pressures mount on the NHS, hospitals are buckling as they try to cope with long admission waits and bed shortages.
The BBC's Hugh Pym spent two days in A&E at Warwick Hospital where management declared a critical incident, with some staff describing the period as "one of the worst" they'd known.
South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust said it had experienced "some of the highest" attendances it had ever seen at the emergency department in the past week.
Patients have been warned to expect long waiting times while medical staff offer treatment.

Flu season is particularly bad they say and Patients waiting days for a bed. Awful.
It will get worse, as I recall the government system is considered acceptable as long as the wait time is under 18 weeks, yes 18 weeks!
Another disaster of their own making
If the free market saw a pent up demand like this, there would be a new hospital opening every 6 months.
Musk’s fault.
That’s the model that the reds want for America.
Death for the poor and middle class, high level treatment in luxury facilities for the ruling class.
They want communism (socialized medicine) to work because they say it will work
They’re so dumb
These doctors, hospitals and staff get paid the same whether they treat people in a timely and efficient way or not.
And yet the NHS is the UK’s largest employer, public or private sector.
Go figure.
Note to patients: You’re really just the grist for your Deep State’s socialist medical mill.
So do the bureaucrats...
And don’t see any patients at all.
FYI
“Sent by Copilot:
The American health care industry is one of the largest employers in the United States. As of 2022, it employed approximately 14.7 million people, accounting for 9.3% of total employment1. This makes it one of the top sectors in terms of employment levels”
“ So do the bureaucrats...
And don’t see any patients at all.”
It’s the DMV. The passport office.
If something is “free” then demand approaches infinity.
It is one of the reasons Canadians routinely flocked to the USA for years for care, particularly medical imaging, where getting an MRI or CT scan could take six months.
I understand they had to make an accommodation to allow private medical imaging suites to open up and make money off of imaging because people were dying due to late diagnosis.
That must have been a tough pill to swallow for the Leftists up there. We aren’t far behind.
I read a great book a while back called “The Arsenal of Democracy: FDR, Detroit, and an Epic Quest to Arm an America at War” and it illustrated the power of capitalism to provide goods and services, when individuals are allowed to make profits.
The Roosevelt Administration (with people like the execrable Harold Ickes...yes, the father of the Harold Ickes WE know as an example) didn’t want people to make money manufacturing arms leading up the war we knew was coming.
The manufacturing goals they knew they were going to have to meet were so stratospheric that they agreed they were impossible.
But when they put William Knudsen (a disciple of Henry Ford) in charge, he convinced them it could be done if we unleashed the power of capitalism, and Roosevelt reluctantly agreed against the wishes of people like Harold Ickes.
And look what happened. They exceeded those unreachable goals because they allowed people to make money.
Same with medical imaging centers. Sigh. As it stands now, we are going in the same direction as Canada and Britain.
Yes, socialists cannot see—or refuse to see—the fatal disasters inherent in Karl Marx’s theories. Nevertheless, Europeans cannot resist implementing his ideas, in whole or in part.
That must have been a tough pill to swallow for the Leftists up there.
Alas, no..it was not tough on the Leftists. Being Communist means never having to say you are sorry.
“FREE Healthcare for ALL!”
Take another huff of my glue rag and say it again!
It must be really bad if the BBC admits this.
Free healthcare sure is great.
But it’s “free”!
