“...change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the ‘Gulf of America’.”
LOLOL. Of course!
When I worked in South America in the mid 70s, I learned that many there were deeply offended by me saying “I am from America.” They considered themselves “Americans,” too. So the “Gulf of America” would be very inclusive of both North and South America. Amerigo would be pleased. I always liked that name.

I've always thought that was ridiculous. No matter where you go in the world, people will call USians 'Americans'; and if you say 'I'm American' they have no confusion at all as to what country you are from.
I doubt very much that South Americans routinely call themselves 'American'. They will say they are Peruvian, Argentinian, Brazilian, etc.

Amruca - Land of the plumed serpent. That’s what the Incas called this land. That’s where we got the name.

Could the reason for renaming the gulf be because Biden signed an order banning new drilling in the Gulf of Mexico?
Mexico shouldn’t have a problem with that, they are North Americas. Well they call us norteamericanos for some odd reason.
