The Universe Really Is Fine-Tuned, And Our Existence Is The Proof [300 word excerpts of an over 2,600Ph article]
Forbes.com ^ | Dec 19, 2019, | Ethan Siegel

Posted on 01/06/2025 8:46:08 AM PST by daniel1212

The Universe is electrically neutral, with one electron to cancel out the charge of every proton in the Universe, and the nuclear forces are extremely short-range, failing to extend beyond the scale of an atomic nucleus.

When it comes to the Universe as a whole, only gravitation matters. The Universe expands at the rate it does throughout its history โ€” and not at a different one โ€” for two reasons alone: our laws of gravity and all the forms of energy that exist in the Universe. If things were slightly different from how they actually are, we wouldn't exist. Here's the science of why. ... Imagine that you came upon a thin, tall, rocky spire here on planet Earth. If you were to place another large rock atop this spire, you would expect it would topple over....When we do find the proverbial boulder balanced in unstable equilibrium, we talk about there being a fine-tuning problem

If we come back to the expanding Universe, that's the situation we find ourselves in: the Universe appears to be enormously fine-tuned.

On the one hand, we have the expansion rate that the Universe had initially, close to the Big Bang. On the other hand, we have the sum total of all the forms of matter and energy that existed at that early time as well, including:

radiation, neutrinos, normal matter, dark matter, antimatter, and dark energy.

A Universe with too much matter-and-energy for its expansion rate will recollapse in short order; a Universe with too little will expand into oblivion before it's possible to even form atoms. Yet not only has our Universe neither recollapsed nor failed to yield atoms, but even today, some 13.8 billion years after the Big Bang, those two sides of the equation appear to be perfectly in balance.....

300 word excerpt of an over 2,600 word article.

Ethan Siegel is an PHD. astrophysicist, author, and science communicator, who professes physics and astronomy at various colleges.

I plan to post more of these, though as with the testimony threads I began to post, I do not have the time and energy or knowledge to respond much at all.

Ping. And yes, how “300 word excerpts of an over 2,600Ph article” got there may be part of a Big Collision.

“Ethan Siegel is a moron if he believes
first there was nothing”

I don’t think he believes that.

Methinks using the term “moron” for politicians - especially Democrat ones - would be safer than using it on a PhD physicist.

The universe exists, and there are living beings. So the universe is “Just Right” for existence, and to support life.

We’ll never find a universe that doesn’t exist, or that doesn’t support life, so I reckon we’ll have to just accept our universe as it is.

Could it be that the people who think the universe just happened to exist, and wasn’t created, can’t accept the obvious fact that it does exist, and that it does support life?

On the other hand, who knows how many times an embryonic “Big Bangs” occurred (with each collapsing back onto itself) before yielding the one that produced our universe?

Even with a Creator, one can ask: What created the Creator?

For some reason when this article posted, it removed the many instances of ellipses (...) which I placed to indicate an excerpt. Anyway, here is a link of mine, by the grace of God, with more sources relative to the these of Intelligent Design.:

How would you respond to this argument: "Since science cannot prove or disprove the existence of God, then it's possible he exists"?

artly, by responding that scientific discovery and knowledge does not warrant the premise that the universe and everything therein can (at least someday) all be attributed to purely natural processes.

Meaning that the atheist/antitheist position that there is no Creator/God, is one lacking in evidential warrant and requires great faith. For atheists can only presume that an exceedingly vast, systematically ordered, intricate universe, exquisitely finely tuned for corporeal earthly life with its extensive diversity and astounding complexity*, came to be by known (or potentially known), purely natural demonstrable powers, as if it was Divine, without any supreme supernatural intelligence behind it.

And which is not akin to requiring faith that there is no Santa Clause, etc., since such can be easily disproven.

While man- using His God-given intelligence - has discovered causes and means of many things (like lighting) that were once attributed by some to purely supernatural causes, yet a creator cannot be restricted from using nature for his purposes, while there are increasingly discoveries supporting the premise that energy and matter, and the organization and programming of the latter require supernatural powers and intelligence natural things. Therefore, rather than a trajectory of scientific discovery leading to a purely natural explanation of the universe, instead, the more that is discovered then the more perplexing competing hypotheses become

[1]
and the more absurd the atheistic denial of a creator becomes.

For the Christian the evidence comports to the omniscient omnipotent God of the Bible as being the Ultimate First Cause, organizer and programmer.

The mystery science cannot solve. Why do mathematics and the physics of the universe correspond? Perhaps Pythagoras was right long ago, that mathematics is reality.

singularity is a con word

it means โ€œ nothingโ€

he talks big bang

1st there was

a singularity ( nothing)

then nothing exploded

( with a big bang )

then nothing became everything

evolution is a farce

Obviously you are ignorant of the big bang theory. It has nothing to do with “nothing to everything”.
