Well, my kids asked me once if I believed Santa was real and he was alive. This was my response. Santa is known as Saint Nicholas. He was a real person who believed in Jesus. Because of that, he will have eternal life. So, yes, I believe Santa is real and that he too lives. Merry Christmas!

I thought they just found his crypt somewhere in a European church? Vague memory.

I am sick and tired of reading about CE. It’s BC and AD.

Some folks don’t want to hear anything with the name Christ or Lord. They are the same ones who don’t want to hear the word Christmas.

Waves of European immigrants brought St. Nicholas’s holiday tradition to America. By the end of the 18th century, St. Nicholas was recognized by American culture. In December of 1773 and December of 1774, it was reported that groups of Dutch families in New York gathered to honor the anniversary of Nicholas’s death. The name, Santa Claus, was stated to evolve from Nick’s Dutch nickname, Sinter Klaas, a shortened form of Sint Nikolaas, which is translated as the Dutch name for St. Nicholas.

According to legend, St. Nicholas was so angry at an advocate of Arianism (possibly Arius himself) at the Council of Nicaea that, overcome by apostolic zeal, he struck his opponent.

It’s believed he was born sometime around 280 CE AD 280

Later, in 325 CE AD 325

The exact date of Nicholas’ death is disputed, but it is traditionally considered to be December 6, 343 CE AD 343

Some versions of the story of the three virgins claim it was three bags of silver that St Nicholas threw though the window. Which is why pawn shop's sometimes have thee silver balls hanging outside. They're paying homage to Saint Nicholas, who happens to be the patron saint of pawn brokers.

Saint Nicholas absolutely was a real person -- and he's much cooler than Santa Claus ever was...
