LOVE the song, but I doubt that’s the case for the Neocons, since it’s talking about a Christian holiday.
I fondly remember those years, and this song/album. It was the first CD I ever bought. Setting aside her politics, Hynde always struck me as at least being genuine, and very talented. Saw the Pretenders twice, once in a very, very small venue tucked away in semi-remote resort. Those were indeed the days!
One of the saddest Christmas songs ever, but hauntingly beautiful.
The album (cassette!) that it is on is probably one of the first couple cassettes I ever bought. The video is a bit more fun. Not crazy fun, but a bit more light-hearted.
Story was that she was asked how she can allow Rush Limbaugh to use her song ("My City Was Gone") as his show's theme song - she said her dad was a US Marine and loved Rush Limbaugh. Way cool.
Love this song.
My absolute favorite tune to hear this time of year, although it is not a Christmas song. Written for the bandmate that died and how she missed him. The video with the fisherman and Santa is wild.
We should start a Favorite Christmas Song Thread, eh? :)
Merry Christmas!
May I?
