Really depends. Some dogs get trained well and know not to beg or pick up things off the floor or try to put paws on the table to get food. We have a service dog that goes pretty much everywhere we go and that includes restaurants. He lays down under the table quietly while we eat. He gets rewarded afterward in the car or when we get home. He knows the drill.

Can't move three feet without my Heeler by my side. 24/7/365, even a trip to the bathroom at 2:00AM. It's insane, but I adjusted. She won't eat the people food because that would violate her self assigned dog-laws. If it's put into her bowl and you stay in the kitchen, she will eat it. You could leave a roasted chicken on the floor and she won't touch it.

Back in the early 80's I had a Black Lab rescue that also complied with a dog-law code. Also, self declared. I think it's an alpha thing.

an exceptional story! I find many more household where the dog just barks and humps legs, and about 98% of homes where the owners just spend all their time yelling at them.

The doorbell rings, the dogs bark, the owners scream. At night my neighborhood is a cacophony of barking. Incessant. The owners scream. The dogs bark. There is no joy in this relationship
