Trump is always negotiating. Do you know his reasons for what he said.

Just guessing about Trump's reasons but here are 2 possibilities:

Greenland is rich in rare earth elements (REEs), which are critical for high-tech industries (think AI) and defense.
China is busy establishing a footprint in Greenland. Chinese companies have attempted to invest in mining projects in Greenland, such as the Kvanefjeld rare earth and uranium mine. These efforts are part of China's broader strategy to dominate the global rare earth supply chain.
