Anyone blame Trump yet for creating this due to climate change and Jan 6?

Squirrels can’t be carnivores. That’s just too frightening!

Why is this a surprise? Rodents eat their young that are weak, so why wouldn’t they eat other animals?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but those ain’t “ground squirrels”. A ground squirrel is a chipmunk, yes?. Those ain’t chipmunks...

RB Wow! This is like a totally NPR Nature series article, No Bambi colored Disney filter here!. A great disruption in the natural order! Squirrels moving to a higher place in the food chain, snagging away a food source from shrews, foxes, coyotes, owls, and hawks! :0

I see squirrels all the time, but I haven’t seen this yet. Either they’re hiding their carnivorism (is that a word?), or there are an abundance of acorns in the park across the street.

I saw a squirrel jump into a trash can and jump out with a fried chicken leg and start chowing down.

I had trouble with a squirrel eating all the plain suet I put out for the birds. Asked the guy at the bird food store and he said it isn’t uncommon for squirrels to eat meat products.

Our cats, however, would never eat voles. Just leave their bodies for us as a gift!

“The squirrels’ carnivorous summer behavior peaked during the first two weeks of July, coinciding with an explosion of vole numbers at the park reported by citizen scientists on iNaturalist. This suggests the squirrels’ hunting behavior emerged alongside a temporary increase in the availability of prey, the study said. The scientists didn’t observe the squirrels hunting other mammals.”

Now that they have a taste for blood they will soon turn to humans for sustenance.
