The Porsche Design Tower In Miami Is Sinking
Motor1 ^ | 16 Dec 2024 | Jeff Perez

Opened in 2014, the Porsche Design Tower was the first automaker-branded residence in the city—and one of the first buildings anywhere in the world with a car elevator. It has since spawned competitors like the 818-foot Aston Martin skyscraper just down the road, with other automaker residences soon to pop up from brands like Bentley, Mercedes-Benz, and even Pagani.

But now, some of those companies may want to give their skyscrapers a second thought.

The architect has nothing to do with the foundation engineering design and construction.

—”Architect was a woman.”

The principal architect would not have much to do with engineering the deep foundation system.
Often a separate firm would be doing that work.

True that. Motion is relative.

I’d hate to have to pay that special assessment.

A friend was contractor on a job where 50 pricy ski-chalets in Vermont had decks built with an improper slope, which caused water to run into the lower walls and foundation. All of them had rotting on the sill and eroded foundations.

The HOA had to try and ram through a $60K assessment, leading to lawsuits, and charges of corruption to previous HOA head, etc. etc. a real mess.

Do you have an elevator to bring your car to your floor level and park next to your unit?

If so, your attornies will keep you informed.
No need for you to be concerned.

It’s on a barrier island.

I guess architects don’t know anything about coastal geomorphology...

Well, it wasn’t meant to be a luxury flat. Provided the tenants are of light build and relatively sedentary, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Personally, I think they should have gone with the Abattoir, but of course that’s just the sort of blinkered philistine pig-ignorance I’ve come to expect from that non-creative garbage.

The St. Francis Dam, or the San Francisquito Dam, was a concrete gravity dam located in San Francisquito Canyon in northern Los Angeles County, California, United States, that was built between 1924 and 1926. The dam failed catastrophically in 1928, killing at least 431 people in the subsequent flood,[2][3] in what is considered to have been one of the worst American civil engineering disasters of the 20th century and the third-greatest loss of life in California history.[4][5][6]

The dam was built to serve the growing water needs of the city of Los Angeles, creating a large regulating and storage reservoir that was an integral part of the Los Angeles Aqueduct. It was located in San Francisquito Canyon of the Sierra Pelona Mountains, about 40 miles (64 km) northwest of downtown Los Angeles, and approximately 10 miles (16 km) north of the present day city of Santa Clarita.

However, a defective soil foundation and design flaws led to the dam's collapse just two years after its completion. Its failure ended the career of William Mulholland, the general manager and chief engineer of the Bureau of Water Works and Supply (now the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power).[7]

Not the builders, the design.

“The Porsche Design Studio was established in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1972 by Prof. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, Grandson of the Porsche founder Ferdinand Porsche and designer of the Porsche 911. The Porsche 911 (originally 901) is just one example of the many objects Prof. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche designed throughout his career”

“In a collaboration with Sieger Suarez Architects, the luxury residences known as the Porsche Design Tower Miami were opened in 2017. The development features three car elevators that lift residents and their cars into so called “Sky Garages””

As referenced in the movie Chinatown.
