Have the Democrats Won an Election On Their Own Terms Since 1964?
Splinter ^ | 11/27/24 | Jacob Weindling

The modern Democratic Party was birthed in the wake of Lyndon B. Johnson’s failure in Vietnam. LBJ was an expert machine politician, and through his time in Texas and into the national picture, he proved that he knew how to get his hands dirty and organize a political party and take power. Like Joe Biden, his domestic accomplishments were eventually overshadowed by his foreign policy calamity, and after he stepped down in 1968, the Democratic Party changed dramatically and got more conservative.

WTF? The democrats got more conservative after LBJ? McGovern was the most radical candidate ever.

The writer smokes weed or had an acid trip while writing this.

“WTF? The democrats got more conservative after LBJ? McGovern was the most radical candidate ever.”

They keep claiming that crap, but can never back it up. Both sides have moved to the left, but ALWAYS with the Democrats leading. But the Democrat attempt for a full takeover of healthcare in 1993, led by Skunk Cabbage, and their partially-successful takeover of healthcare lead by Obama in 2010, is just one example of moving to the left. And don’t even get me started on gay rights, etc.

“Joe Biden had domestic accomplishments?”

Sure, in the eyes of Leftists. The big one was getting 13 million migrants into this country. That took a HUGE amount of effort by the federal government to organize.

They’ve been cheating since the 1850s when Boss Tweed was running the vote cheating scam. Look him up and the quotes he is famous for. What you see today is his legacy that lives on.

Carter won based on Ford pardoning Nixon.

Clinton won based on Perot. Then Bob Dole.

Obama won based on John McCain. Then Romney.

Biden won based on 13 million stolen votes.

So yeah. In the last half century - Democrats have not won based on their own terms.

Repubs handed Clinton and Obama their wins.

“after he stepped down in 1968, the Democratic Party changed dramatically and got more conservative.”

Not true.

On the domestic front, both LBJ and Biden did more harm than good.

This writer must be a millennial. The Democrat Party became more liberal with the demise of LBJ. Hubert Humphrey was no conservative nor a moderate when he ran in ‘68. George McGovern was the furthest left candidate ever nominated by a major party up to that time in 1972, and they have gone further left ever since.

Like Joe Biden, his domestic accomplishments

Wow, it only took six words to blow all his credibility.

In his first year Biden had a legistlative agenda he put up that included the infrastructure bill, bunch of other stuff. Unlike Trump, the GOP helped Biden get every damn thing he asked for. So from that perspective he was extremely successful and we like to pretend it didn't happen.

I expect the GOP in congress will go back to obstructing now that Trump us back.

I think Obama won because of the market collapse in 2008. Not entirely McCain’s fault to be fair.

Ditto that. We’re living LBJs Great Society now on the domestic front. Three generations on welfare with no clue they could ever escape it. Inner city school systems destroyed with no hope of recovery. A federal bureaucracy bloated beyond comprehension that only cares about getting their money and spouting hard left rhetoric.

LBJ created this mess and Biden has done his best to weaponize it.

I would say that even the 1964 election was not won on merit by the Democrats. Barry Goldwater was running against the ghost of JFK, as well as a goodly share of the Rockefeller “Republicans”. Uncle Cornpone, Elbie Jay, was simply the beneficiary of the circumstances.

Maybe. But McCain was picked like Dole and Romney.

It was just “their turn.”

The title implies '64 was a legit election, yet LBJ was a master at voter fraud. IIRC, didn't he have Richard Daley's campaign manager as his own campaign boss? And didn't Daley invent the whole "registering dead people to vote" scam.

And did not JFK use the mafia as an asset to steal the '60 election?

Dunno where the author of this article is getting his info but he ign'ant.

Yes.

And it didn’t hurt LBJ’s chances as he was the incumbent.

The election just after the assassination and the following deification of JFK by the left was a foregone conclusion, no republican was going to beat JFK’s veep.
