Liberalism seems to have an irrational animus against Christianity. Consider these two stories highlighted in the last week by conservative Christian blogger Rod Dreher.
Item 1: In a widely discussed essay in Slate, author Brian Palmer writes about the prevalence of missionary doctors and nurses in Africa and their crucial role in treating those suffering from Ebola. Palmer tries to be fair-minded, but he nonetheless expresses "ambivalence," "suspicion," and "visceral discomfort" about the fact that these men and women are motivated to make "long-term commitments to address the health problems of poor Africans," to "risk their lives," and to accept poor compensation (and sometimes none at all) because of their Christian faith.

This nation is divided.. half hate the Christians and Trump. The other half are the Christians and Trump. There has not been a President hated like this.. hunted, shot, tried to put him away... it’s unreal and all of you know it’s not normal or ordinary. The division comes down to God and the other.. satan. Our minds .. are controlled by what we know, what we hear and what comes to the mind and settles in.
The half that hates.. really hone in on anything of God.. If you have ever been in the midst of satanism... where it is evident, they know immediately who you are. I say that for those who scoff at all this.
Just know the battle is on and Trump, being the President... has been attacked and hounded... yet is safe and has not gone into hiding. You can see the hate as they speak...it’s evident. It must be miserable living like that.
I’m not Catholic; but I know my own history, and what caused my turn from organized religion.
There’s a difference between ‘despising’ Christianity, as the OP puts it, and simply turning from the organized churches.
I’ve known lots of political liberals - nearly all of my friends in the past and my coworkers; and I’ve never known one who ‘despised’ Christianity.
I’ve known a lot who didn’t understand it, though.
When you don’t love the truth, you hate it.
When you hate the truth, your path is directed away from it and you don’t see it.

The West isn’t agnostic nor secular.
We have become outright atheist.
Not everyone, but as a society, how it is organized and the policies / laws / regulations created.
Think about this, after this article was written, during covid, they shut all the churches down; BUT strip clubs and abortion clinics were able to stay open in many parts of this nation!
I despise liberals, so there’s that.

Secular humanist leftists favor a worldview centered on permissive morality and experimental lifestyles and alternative lifestyles without the need for divine commands or supernatural beliefs. This can clash with the Christian worldview that sees morality as rooted in God's revelation and authority.
The Marxist worldview of leftists is critical of religion, seeing it as an 'opiate of the masses' that perpetuates social inequalities and powers of the elite. The Marxist view holds that religion should be abolished or superseded by a more scientific, materialist understanding of the world and society.
If people ever really saw a glimpse of Satan and how he works thru all the perverse, sadistic, even pretense of religion they would %^*t their pants. Having encountered someone once and directly engaged them in their Satanic activities I can tell you, you had better be strong in the Lord and not rely on your own understanding.
Lucifer was the original power-hungry liberal/communist, thus proxy servants of his work to obtain power, and pervert all that God ordained as right, since it gives honor to its creator.
Because biblical Christianity is directly opposed to communist philosophy

With respect, you may have that wrong. The Bill of Rights protects us from local State abuses and denial of those inalienable rights. Imagine California trying to put local State restrictions on Christianity or outlaw it. Which they WOULD do if the U.S. Constitution did not prevent them from doing it. They can’t and haven’t because the U.S. Constitution forbids it.
Every State agreed to that list and Federal authoriy of that list when they entered the charter to join the Unions of States. (Law of the land). They agreed to give up any authority to deny those particular rights in the BoR.
And good thing, or several States would have already abolished Christianity by now.
They despise Christianity because liberalism is their religion.

Agree. I was about to say THE core tenant in liberalism is justification of any and all immorality.
True Christianity and Judaism condemn immorality and do not allow for its justification.
That’s why people like Russell Moore are false.
If you look at the catechism, you will see multitudes of biblical bases for these tenets
