DUANESBURG — The chief financial officer of Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region has been fired after allegedly defacing a Donald Trump campaign sign with swastikas in October and taking a different one from another location earlier this month.
Michael Coleman, 59, is accused of using black tape to mark a Trump/Vance political sign at the intersection of Main Street and Western Turnpike with four swastikas. Delanson Mayor Gayle Gifford alerted the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office to the alleged vandalism on Oct.1 and a deputy was sent to investigate, according to documents filed in Duanesburg Town Court.
“Upon arrival I observed the sign and what appeared to be two swastikas made by black electrical tape, placed on both sides of the sign,” a deputy wrote in an incident report.
Another court document shows Coleman told state troopers he also took a Trump/Vance campaign sign from the corner of Courtney Drive and Herrick Road on Nov. 4. (snip)
“Civilian video footage was obtained which led to the identification of Michael Coleman as a suspect in the sign theft,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release Tuesday. “Subsequent investigation by the NYSP and the interview of Mr. Coleman led to information resulting in his arrest for both the theft of the campaign signs and the swastika vandalization of the Trump sign which was handled by the sheriff’s office.”
The professional fallout has been swift for Coleman, who had worked for the charity since April 2020.
“The recent actions taken by Michael Coleman do not align with the mission and values of RMHC-CR. Therefore, the RMHC-CR Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer announce that Mr. Coleman is no longer employed at Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region,” the organization said in a statement.
Started working for the charity during the pandemic...wonder where he worked before that? He was bound to have TDS since 2016.
What immature behavior from a grown man who should know better and have more control over his emotions.
They were right to fire him. Someone with that little emotional control shouldn’t be in a position where he makes decisions in regards to charitable distributions. He is likely to make those decisions based on the political leanings of the clients.

It must take a while to make 4 swastikas with electrical tape, and this idiot did it in broad daylight at a busy intersection.
Seems to me that someone in his (former) position probably pulls in a nice salary. He could have picked up his own signs from the Trump campaign, customized them as much as he wanted, and posted them in a public place. That would have had First Amendment protection and he’d still have a job.
I am glad, somebody got charged!
Stealing and defacing Trump signs is the most widespread crime in the USA during elections.

I am really amazed. I really love Texans. There is a heavily used main road about four or five miles long going from near my house to the main roads going through town. About a month before the election, someone put up two small “Trump” signs along the side of the road. Those signs were never touched by anybody. They are still there. It’s nice to know my town is short on liberal “democrazy” maggots. This town is loaded with minorities.
They’re having on film. There’s nothing alleged about it.
