Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair has been suspended three games by the NFL in response to his illegal hit on Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence and subsequent ejection from the game on Sunday.
NFL Send Al-Shaair Suspension Notice
NFL Vice President of Football Operations Jon Runyan issued the suspension.
"During your game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on December 1, with 4:20 remaining in the second quarter, you were involved in a play that the League considers unacceptable and a serious violation of the playing rules," Runyan wrote in a letter to Al-Shaair. "Video shows you striking the head/neck area of Jaguars’ quarterback Trevor Lawrence after he clearly goes down in a feet-first slide...You led with your forearm and helmet and delivered a forceful blow to the head/neck area of your opponent when you had time and space to avoid such contact."
"After the illegal hit, you proceeded to engage in a brawl, which you escalated when you pulled an opponent down to the ground by his face mask. After the referee announced that you were disqualified for the hit and your unsportsmanlike acts, you removed your helmet and reengaged with your opponent while walking down and across the field, which started another physical confrontation near the end zone.
"Your lack of sportsmanship and respect for the game of football and all those who play, coach, and enjoy watching it, is troubling and does not reflect the core values of the NFL…Your continued disregard for NFL playing rules puts the health and safety of both you and your opponents in jeopardy and will not be tolerated."

I just heard a defender of this creep that “it isn’t the job of the defense to protect the offense player, the offense does that”, as though stopping this creep from illegally assaulting an offensive player is the job of the offense. OK, let the offense kick his ass until he it too broken to play since that is what he was trying to the QB.
Permanent, lifetime ejection from the NFL is called for.
It would send the right message to the thugs in football uniforms.
“he should be banned from the NFL totally”
Sure but when’s the last time that happened.....never that I know of.
This should be the first and last. Make an example of him................
I’ve noticed that some players in the majority ethnicity in the nfl hasve been pushing the envelope on breaking the rules the last 2 or 3 seasons......last season it was putting their hands on officials....now that they know that will not be tolerated it’s now on to seeing how much unsportsmanlike behavior will be tolerated.
BELLACHICK WAS ONCE FINED $50K FOR TOUCHING A OFFICIAL.............
Or kicked out of the national felon league for good.
Vontaze Burfict 2.0
Like Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson, Adam “Pac-Man” Jones and Michael Vick.
I recall it happened a lot last season
little more too it than that. Lawrence is an unabashed Christian. This “muzzie” is a huge Palestinian supporter....actually writes the death toll in Gaza, plus other muzzie garbage on his cleats. Theres gonna be on the field payback next year...guaranteed.
100%!
He knew the QB was sliding, just tried to get in the hit before the QB hit the floor. Completely unnecessary and extremely dangerous, demonstrated by the KO.
Glad his teammates reacted...
Prior to the hit with 4:20 to go in the second quarter, Trevor Lawrence had 41 yards passing. Mac Jones came in to finish the game and had 235 yards passing and they only lost by by a field goal. Of the 47 games he played in, this was his 17th best performance and it basically only one half.
Good. I’m a Texans fan and I completely support this.
Wow! Action along with the sternly worded letter. Who would have thunk it? Perhaps a lesson for our federal government / GOP.
To all the Snowflakes out there. Football is a violent sport. I miss Dick Butkus, Jack Tatum and Fred Williamson.
Change the rules like my 6 yo grandson plays flag football. QB cannot run past the line of scrimmage.
So you won’t mind if they draw gun and shoot each other. Quicker than trying to clothesline someone to death.
That guy wasn't a dirty player - he was filthy! I thought at some point he was actually going to kill someone.
