Where are the minarets? :-)
Thankfully, sanity prevailed and the roof has been restored to its original state, using the same design, materials, and construction techniques as the original. Not that there’s much chance I’ll ever visit that “migrant”-infested dump to see it again.
I saw that and thankfully I did a google search to see that was a proposed version (much like my sarcastic version with the mini-roller coaster on the roof and bungee jumping from the towers). The real new spire was very like the second one which was destroyed in the fire. I didn’t check enough pictures to see how exact it was. The original spire was taken down in the late 1700s due to rotting and partial collapse.
I hope the French government is taking security and protection of this great cathedral will much greater effort.
In Italy last month I saw soldiers in humvee (looking) vehicles every so often keeping an eye on things. In Florence, they parked right in front of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (il Duomo). Maybe the French should do likewise, augment any electronic surveillance with some troops ready to fire on anything that needs stopping.
Craftmanship from the 1100’s not shabby at all new construction may never last that long.
Old timey guys take bow.
