French President Emmanuel Macron inspected the newly renovated Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris today, and declared: ‘She’s Back!’.

Five years after a devastating fire threatened to destroy the ancient place of worship, it is set to reopen to the public next week.

Hailing a restoration costing at least £600million on Friday, Mr Macron walked around Notre Dame with his wife, Brigitte Macron, and said ‘The nightmare is over.’

That’s the “green” version they rejected.

Maybe some day the nation of France will rise from the ashes.

Maybe some day they'll say the 'nightmare is over' after the devastating catastrophe of the 20th century and early 2st.

£600million

Less then one bad Disney film - I would say money well spent.

They probably replaced the bells with a ‘bong-a-tron’ (electronic carillon) and the Hunchback is probably retired to the French Riviera, sucking down margaritas.

I hope the French government is taking security and protection of this great cathedral will much greater effort.

In Italy last month I saw soldiers in humvee (looking) vehicles every so often keeping an eye on things. In Florence, they parked right in front of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (il Duomo). Maybe the French should do likewise, augment any electronic surveillance with some troops ready to fire on anything that needs stopping.

The exact cause of the blaze was never established, but investigators believed it to be accidental, started by either a cigarette or a short circuit in the electrical system.

Uh-huh. It seems an unwillingness to label it anything other than 'accidental'.

All parties - including government, media and 'fact checkers' - tripped over themselves to debunk any claims that suggested anything but 'accidental.'

I remain dubious of the 'accidental' label...

There was even a proposal to put a swimming pool on the roof. Thankfully, sanity prevailed.

This is all wrong.

The old one had a few years of patina that this one will never see. Its all clean and bright and new looking. Its a completely different color. Inside and out.

I wonder if they wrote the headline for people who can’t add. They could have written, “five years after devastating fire” or “after devastating 2019 fire.” It seems redundant.

Give thanks Notre Dame has been restored as it was not altered to fit “modern” sensibilities.

The church I claim as ‘mine’ has a routine of having the members come out to all new buildings as they’re being built, and before the walls are closed up, writing important Bible passages on the inside of the walls/studs.

I’m sure there are symbols are inside the walls, etc. that would not be considered Biblical, and would be considered outright satanic.

Well, at least they rebuilt it - I wasn't sure they were going to - given the current anti-Christian/Catholic, pro- Muslim politics in France.
