No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
After he had retired from the NFL Michael Oher tried to claim that the Touhey (sp?) family hadn’t been straight with him about the money he made from the movie. They said they had put it in a trust on his behalf (as guardians) but that he was welcome to all of it whenever he wanted. They were, apparently (and understandably), hurt. But I think it all blew over.
I went to Hobby Lobby with a framing project and found myself in the 90% off Christmas rush. Mobs of people, insane lines ... but everyone was reasonably cheerful and patient.
I took my income change to the office for processing, but it may be next month before I see it reflected in my rent.
But it also gave me a chance to find out when the shower would be fixed. She came about 20 minutes after I left the office, and it took her about that long to fix it. I hope the screaming is a thing of the past now!
The pills have been sorted and I’m going to fix some lunch. My stomach still has a hard time with anything other than toast.
Way back when I heard an Andy Griffith standup routine called “What it was was football.”
He described being in a crowd of people when suddenly they started flowing toward a gate and he couldn’t force his way out of the crowd.
He said someone said, “Ticket please” and he replied, “Sir, I don’t have a ticket. I don’t even know where it is that I’m a-goin’!”
Your Hobby Lobby story made me think of that.
I’ve heard that Andy Griffith number.
I got a card from you today! It cheered me right up, for sure!
Jim (of A/C installations) brought me over enough turkey for two sandwiches, and I was wondering how it would taste on toast with avocado and tomato... It sounds good, anyway!
As I was going to Lin’s this morning, it was about the same time as when I leave for church and all I could think of was that Sunday I won’t be leaving until 1000 and it will be maybe 10° warmer when I go to start the car. Maybe it won’t be so sluggish. I was almost tempted to rename it “Sluggo!”
So now, it’s that time of day, and I need to get up from here and get Chip’s dinner ready, then work on my own.
I hope you have a good night!
I hope you have a good night, too. That card took a long time!
Good morning. Happy Friday!
We got about 1/2” of snow last night. So I was up at 4 shoveling M-I-L’s driveway. If it had been our own home I’d have left it. I don’t know if the apartment complex is going to do more than shovel people’s entry walks (which they’ve already done).
M-I-L seemed to rally yesterday. She was very alert when I went over after work. She had decided she didn’t want dinner, though. Maybe she was fed too much for breakfast and lunch.
Not quite as good a Wordle score today as yesterday, but still respectable.

The cancellation on the card says “27 Dec,” and that seems about right — six days. It comes by dog team this time of year.
¡Pobrecito!
Good morning! I hope you had a good night.
I was dreaming about FS’s dad, and it was a very pleasant dream. I didn’t want to get up, but I did, sluggishly.
Then I came out here and found the biggest mess of food that Chip has ever made. Almost the entire food mat is covered with kibble. What WAS he thinking? I wonder if its his version of playing with a bottle cap or a thread spool?
It’s 37° out and 75 in here. It’s supposed to get up to 64, but we’ll see. It will be mostly overcast all day. At least it’s not as cold as Dogpatch. for being in “The South,” they really have some ugly weather.
If we get snow, it usually comes in January or February, and then only enough to make driving sloppy. Pine Mountain gets a real good covering of it, though, and I love to see it.
It’s good to know your M-i-L had a good day, yesterday. It’s encouraging, even if only for the near future.
Good job on the Wordle!
Ahh, yes, thanks... that was what I now recall... I was glad that it worked out in the end... IIRC he had a pretty good career with Baltimore...
🤣
That was great that she rallyed... she may be in a period where she has some ups and downs... sort of like the rest of life, just a bit more pronounced...
Good Friday Morning!
On the 10 day foreguess yesterday, they were showing that we had a chance of 1.5” of snow for next Thursday into Friday... now that has disappeared... it may return as we get into next week... we shall see...
I thought that I made good Wordle guesses today, just had to make too many....

BTW, I had to steal that meme and use it on the group text thread with the kids... they had some kind of silly discussion about ducks going on, and that was a perfect contribution from me!
Good morning. I went to Mass this morning. We’re talking about hiking later in the day, when the temperature might reach 50.
It’s always good to hike in cooler weather.
We did a lot of that when we were kids. The foothills around Payson were just a big playground for us. Well, that and the swimming pool at the park!
I hope it’s an enjoyable hike!
