No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
I see you found us! Good job!
And good job on the Wordle!
Yes, you did break the string of 4’s and got a pyramid into the deal!
Good job!
Welcome to the new digs!
Some years back, I heard a box of live WWII land mines showed up in a local estate auction. Someone spotted them and alerted the auction people. No explosion, but I would assume the consignor had to answer some difficult questions.
What was the bid?...................😁
LOL!
Of course they weren’t sold but they would certainly make for an interesting 4th of July party!
Now THAT’s a cat pillow if I ever saw one, and the king in his place on it!
How is your little granddaughter, besides growing quickly. Is she as placid as she looks in the photos?
I don’t think I slept well last night, so I’ll be fighting to stay awake from about noon on. I have no idea what the problem was, but I’m sure it’s just a once-a-month thing. Or less. I hope.
Annette just sent me a photo of “up north” where she is tending her terminally ill sister. It was a beautiful photo of snow and mountains, and made me very homesick for the town I grew up in.
Tomorrow is pill sorting day before it’s anything else, but I got a Hungry Man turkey dinner in case I don’t feel like showing up at the Thanksgiving dinner at the clubhouse. Crowds stress me out, but I don’t know how to tell people without sounding like a wienie.
She’s very good-natured. However, she’s a noisy sleeper, with lots of squeaks and grumbles. At one point, I thought she was awake, so I put her bottle in the warmer - they have so many gadgets! - and went to the bathroom, and when I got back, she was dead-o again, so I went to sleep for another hour.
They’re coming over late this afternoon for some snacks and a game.
I’ve totally forgotten why.
That sounds like fun!
👍🏻
Yes, it was a nice pyramid, I had not noticed until you pointed it out!
I’ve seen one or two babies who are noisy sleepers, and I think it’s very sweet!
Will they come tomorrow for a bit? They’ll quickly work out how to split their holiday time between in-laws.
Do you get much sleep when you’re there?
I have a tendency to look for patterns. I used to make a game of it in bars. I’d have someone draw a squiggle of any kind and then I make a sketch out of it. That was long ago and far away, however!
14° after dawn, and graupel.
Oh, the baby ... 😁
We support a no-kill shelter in CA, Cat House On The Kings, and get an email every morning featuring the Cat Of The Day.
Today’s is a 4-month-old tuxedo named Fiona, and she’s a twin to my Fiona who we lost in 2020. If we weren’t so old, I’d want her.
Didn’t you see the moving van...puttering off in the distance? Post #3,382 on the Spirit Airlines thread!
It’s OK! You made it here and that’s all that matters! Welcome!
