No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
Someone in CA got the MM big prize. Again...
Starting to think that this is how they are bailing out the CA State budget...
There were 4-5 $1 Million dollar winners from the same tickets from various States.
Good morning, all. I’m back among the living, now. Well, slightly so. My washday nap was interrupted by a text, as it often is, so no biggie. It’s just hard to go back to sleep.
I didn’t do the Wordle over the weekend, but I’ll get to it soon and see how nimbly my brain fires.
We’ve got sunny skies for a change, and that’s good. Since mid-October, we’ve had the same dismal temps and cloudy skies, and though I never thought I’d see the day, I’m really tired of wearing thermals!
I hope y’all have a great Monday!
Agreed.... we just found it a bit odd.....
So, I had this thought about the whole stimulus spending thing and the way it creates Federal budget problems.
Why doesn’t the Fed use stimulus money to by state lottery tickets?
States get the money so it can stimulate their economy and do much better things with the money than the Fed does. And the winnings can go to pay for stuff that taxes pay for now.
I keep wondering if that could work?
I didn’t realize that they also had other winners.... a million dollar ticket would be a nice surprise!
Yes, I hope that it is sunny for all of us for quite some time!
I really tried to think of an alternate word, but with my opening word... *sigh* ...there wasn’t much choice.

You GO, girl! I got a 2 as well. My starter word yielded four letters, the last one a green square.
I lucked out with my first guess after that, because there were a couple of other possibilities.
Good deal!
I knew I had a chance of getting at least two letters out of the five, but five? What choice did I have? LOL!
I hope you had a good Christmas. I was out of town visiting with the Other Folks, so my entire Christmas week was out of kilter. SO many people didn’t get greetings from me, and I’m ashamed about that. I hate when I’m lax about contacting people I love.
Have you gotten a new kitty friend, yet?
Big ol’ paws on that cute kitteh.
Happy New Year to you and your family!
About as well as lifting yourself off the ground by pulling on your boot straps... But, sure... It wouldn’t be the dumbest thing the FedGov has ever done.
Yep. Powerball does this as well...
It’s still in the “better chance of being struck by lightning while riding a unicycle” range... but still a non-zero chance.
I’m so sorry that your M-I-L and family are having to deal with this. I’ll keep you in my prayers.
May you all have a blessed 2025.
I did have a good Christmas, thanks for asking! I’ve also been out of town so I know how it can throw your days off.
I hope you enjoyed your time with the Other Folks.
How is Chip doing?
No new kitty yet. I’ll wait until the holiday craziness settles down and then adopt one - probably two, so that they can keep each other company when I travel.
If the shelter has a bonded couple of cats, that’s the way to adopt. I’m sure you’ll find the right ones, and you’re right about traveling. Every time I’m gone overnight or longer, it sets Chip back, so I won’t be doing that again!
Chip is OK. I got back from four days in CO in August and he was thrown into a tizzy by my absence, so if I go in the future, he will have to go with me or we will both stay home.
He’s off his feed again, but he’s such a picky eater that I can’t add anything to increase his appetite or he will ignore his food altogether. He was never socialized so he don’t know from toys, and has no clue what it’s like to be held and brushed, or even petted.
I’m going to try and get him to the vet sometime during January, just to make sure he’s OK.
I love the little guy! And I love his little kitty snores!
Thank you, Allegra.
She had some kind of event, for sure. She’s doing a little better today but we’re going to have the caregivers treat this as a mini-stroke and take into account that things won’t be like before.
At least she was responding to questions today, even if her answers were mostly “no”. And she did get out of bed and want some food. Once F-I-L had his stroke, it was just rapid decline and death. So this is better.
Good morning. Happy Twosday! Happy New Year’s Eve!
It will be sort-of like a Friday at owrk today since tomorrow is a holiday.
It was cooler this morning walking The Princess. We’re heading back to winter temps, but most of the snow is melted away.
Last night was uneventful for M-I-L. Our heater started making noise about 8pm. We called it in, then called it in about 9pm. The maintenance guy had to travel about 45 minutes to get here. I don’t know why nobody got to him at 8. But we had heat overnight.
We watched a movie called Larry and Marge Go Large which was pretty good. It had been recommended to me but the trailer didn’t really do it justice. You all might find it fun.
Back to par on Wordle.

Good morning. It sounds like things are going tolerably for you on the last day of the calendar year. I need to take the trash out.
Great Security Dog!
Happy Year’s Eve Day, she sez, with dyslexic typing that needs three corrections for a three-letter word!
I hope you had a good night. And I hope your neighborhood fireworks don’t get too loud and long tonight. We don’t have much here, because of the local park nearby. It hosts the fireworks for the city.
Chip slept in my chair at least half the night, last night. I like it. It’s still slightly warm when I sit in in, so....
It’s 29° with a high of 53 expected. I don’t know why I tell you this every day. It hasn’t changed in almost three months. *mumble-grumble*
