Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell
Not The Bee ^ | November 26, 2024 | Staff

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Good morning. Happy Twosday!

I iz warmz and toasteez!

The discussed Zoom overnighter on Thursday has turned into a trip to see Young ArGee and attend in person. It will be more fun this way, but I hope I survive. Mrs. ArGee was wanting me to take some stuff out to the youngster and this turned out to be a good opportunity.

My posting may be erratic Thursday and Friday.

We hit 22 fs above the yearly average for yesterday’s high. It’s supposed to get into the 90s again today . A storm tomorrow, if it arrives according the National Crystal Ball Service, will cool things down to more normal temps.

Three runs on today’s Wordle gives me 5 for the Over.

Good Morning!

The best laid plans... it wasn’t supposed to rain until this evening so I left the mower out thinking that I would spend some time cutting the tallest area of the yard before leaving for town this morning, and before the rains of the week... I wake up to find that it is already raining...

Another excursion into the Sea of Greens...

Sorry about your mower! The weather is supposed to “turn” here on Thursday night.

It isn’t too bad as I have the seat covered... what is your weather supposed to turn to?

With the warmer weather we’ve had more people walking our cul-de-sac. That means the Nest doorbell spent a lot of yesterday alerting me to people who I didn’t need to be alerted by.

I’m trying an “activity zone” to cut out the sidewalk. We’ll see if that helps.

There’s a house on our street that announces, “You’re on camera!” as we walk by on the sidewalk.

Do you charge fees for use of your image?

In addition to all the people out taking constitutionals, one of our neighbors clearly needs a hobby. He mows his lawn at least twice a week. And it’s not as if his grass grows all that fast.

Of course, he’s got one of those ultra lawnmowers. It probably can go 40 mph and has zero-turn radius and everything but A/C. But still...get a hobby!

Good morning.

A rare photo of a mama cat taking care of her baby plants.

It was 70 fs again this morning walking The Princess. We get a break in the summer temps if today’s guessed rain arrives. I know The Princess will be glad to have cooler temps. Hopefully it won’t be raining when I drive out tomorrow morning.

I don’t know if I ever told you that the company finally woke up and removed that useless Value survey. I now have the sticky to come up with a better one. Patience worked this time.

Another 4-spot on Wordle today. 2 more runs gives me 7 for the Over.

Happy Humpf Day.

We literally had a frost warning last night. May 19th... Global Warming my frost bit arse.

Sunny now... Going to 61 later this afternoon. Working remote this AM, but have a UPS swap for a client at Noon. They are leaving for a “team building event” and I have an hour where no one will be in the building. Should be more than enough time.

Apparently ear buds with a charging pod are only good for 2-3 years. So I’m lucky my Jabra set lasted a little over 4.

Back to Amazon for me.
