Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

No rain today, but cloudy and cool. Might not even hit 50 today. Unseasonably cold for a May up here.

Ya, getting chilly here too... all of that cold air that is rushing down from Canada and causing the snow storms in the Rockies is bleeding down here too... was in the upper 70s earlier, now down to 60 and falling...

Good morning. Happy Friday Eve!

Hello! Do you like my hat?

The chilly weather has returned. The guessed high today is 64. But we have sunshine so that’s nice.

Mrs. ArGee is stuck between not wanting to move again for a long time and not wanting such a big house. There’s no solution for that but to wait and see which one wins. Or give it the time until she’s ready to move again.

I sure don’t want to move any time soon.

I completely wiffed at Wordle so I’m still at 6 for the Over.

Someone put a lily pad on that cat’s head!

It’s been on the cooler side... a guess for rain tomorrow... 🤷🏽‍♂️

Decent Wordle effort today...

Unless there is somewhere that you want/need to go, not moving is the nicer option... IMHO...

I want to move to a smaller house. There’s just the 2 of us so we don’t need 4 bedrooms and 2 floors. We also don’t really need almost 1/2 acre of property that we just use for grass. We’d also probably want to be much closer to young ArGee before we get old enough to need taking care of.

But young ArGee might marry and move, and we’re able to take care of this place now, so there’s no hurry.

Ahh, yes, Mrs. zz had wanted to try to move closer to our daughter (she lives about 4 hours away) for some time, but I convinced her that it was too risky to be worth all of the hassle and bother of a move... She and her husband are both nurses and hence very mobile career wise...

They are also too young to be thinking that where they are now is the place that they are settling into for the long run... its a nice property, but nothing that would keep them in place for the duration...

I’ve been wondering if any young people should think of settling in the U.S. in the long run. But the moonbase probably won’t be ready in time.

All the countries of the earth seem to be a mess, with western civilization trying to catch up in the race to the sewer.

Yeah well, if I were wealthy enough and could pilot a sea plane like the Hemisphere Dancer I would consider a nice private island in a warm climate... or even a cold climate perhaps...

But alas, neither of the above are true!

Some socialist would show up and claim your private island for the epople.

That is, unless, you also plan to have a private army with weapons and ammo on your private island.
