No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.
One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.
The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:
Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.
Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.
Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,
It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.
But, she added:
Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.
Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.
The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.
‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'
Not an easy task by any means.
The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"
This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.
It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.
Oh, then that's not too bad...
It’s a part literally not much bigger than a shotglass made from mild steel.
$12 each. Heard back from the local HD dealership. Takes about a week to get shipped over from Wisconsin.
Good morning. Happy Friday!
Way to hold the line, kitteh!
We hit the guessed high yesterday and the guessed rain came in yesterday evening. It’s supposed to be rainy and cooler today.
The landscaper’s estimate came in yesterday. OOF! I didn’t know hardscapes with paving stones could be so expensive. We’re having another landscaper visit today.
I may have to learn to put down paving stones. What’s a back good for, anyway?
I haven’t solved the Wordle yet. I’ll get at most 2 runes out of today if I can even think of a word to guess.
LOL! That would make an excellent “Demotivator” poster from Despair.inc.
The week for shipping is nuts, but the price isn’t that outrageous....
🤣
Perfect!
There’s always a catch.
I got there in 4. For some reason I kept ignoring the obvious answer. I guess I thought I’d already determined it had won before. So 2 today gives me 9 for the Over.

I believe that hit gives me 1 run today, and 10 for the Over...
Good morning. No rain expected here.
IIRC you folks are good on the rain front... been getting some pretty regularly...
Eh... Maybe. They’ll probably give me the hard sell on a new bike or some other such nonsense. I’ve been over there on my Triumph for some of the events they get going there. Blessing of the Bikes, bikini bike washes, etc...
I do plan on asking if they know of any insurance claim type auctions coming up, other than Copart, where a non-functional parts bike could be procured. See what they say... I’m 100% certain that I’ll be coming back to these guys for parts in the future, so going to try to cultivate a good relationship of some type.
They even ran a maintenance series for a while showing what basic tasks should be done and how doing certain bolt-on mods, that they sell, were easy to do.

One word - donuts.
That's exactly what goes on at the Kubota dealers (and the other manufacturers from what I hear)... they really don't want you to have easy access to affordable parts... much rather you buy new machines from them...
Swing cylinder seal kit example: $305 to $315 at Kubota dealers and authorized parts resellers... $60 at my (sort of) local hydraulic shop... plus the guys and gal at the hydraulic shop are friendly and fun to talk to...
Exactly why I’m bought most of the stuff for this project off of eBay, FB marketplace, Partzilla, Amazon, etc...
A few things... you literally CAN’T find anywhere else. Hence my trip over to the HD stealership here in about 2 hours. It’s not that far away. Less than 5-6 miles.
As far as ag equipment goes, it depends on the age and volume of your machines, whether or nto you can score on eBay or Amazon... my front loader is a good example... it is old but there were a lot sold of that model in this country and elsewhere... hence I was able to get complete seal kits for the boom and bucket cylinders on Amazon for about $20 versus $240 from Kubota... now these are crap from China and they probably won’t hold up as long, but for the price I will do them again when needed...
The hydraulic shop costs a bit more, but they get most of their stuff from Hercules and it is pretty decent quality...
Now, the backhoe is a different beast... not only is it old, but it had a very limited production run so there are probably not too many in service... therefor no third parties are going to invest in making seal kits for something that there is really no market for... so I see nothing on Amazon or eBay... actually a guy from a tractor forum that I am on sent me a link to an eBay part that looked like it was for the backhoe’s swing cylinders... I ordered two because the price was good and I thought that I scored a deal... I actually didn’t get around to trying to use one set until a couple of months later... when I discovered that it was the wrong seal kit... I didn’t notice that the part number prefix was 1 digit off... makes all the difference in the world!
Yeah... I’ve got less than $2k invested in total so far in a $20k bike retail. Plus, I get to paint it how I want it... I hate basic black. Will post pics once I get the frame and fenders painted and assembled so far.
I can find a lot of things “used” that just need to be rebuilt or cleaned up and are still serviceable. Other things, I can fab. For things like these stupid fork piston stops... Dealer is the only ones that seem to carry them, at all.
Good luck with the Chinesium stuff.
