Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

w00t!

I also took 4 toay. So that’s 2 runs and 15 for the Over. Not a bad first Over, but probably last place. Given my first 2 guesses I’m lucky I got there at all.

Good morning. Reality is kind of exhausting here. I picked the wrong Lent to give up heroin.

Good morning. Happy Monday!

We had almost hot weather yesterday. I think it got up to 80 fs. Rain (and thunder) yesterday evening cooled things off a bit for today.

We have at least one landscaper planning to come talk about our project. We have requests in to 2 more for a callback.

I haven’t solved the Wordle yet. I guess I’m still defending my wicket. It’s not going to be a high-scoring at-bat, though. I’ll post it when I get there.

Reality is for people who can’t handle drugs.

Or, at least, so they tell me.

Back in the C-B days I used to say “Break 1-9 for a reality check.” Nobody ever came back, though.

After the past few days of unseasonably warm temps (low 90s) we are supposed to be a bit more seasonable this week (low 80s) and now the tease begins... 🤞🏻 guesses of rain starting on the 31st... 🙏🏼

Monday.

It’s a Monday.

Weekend wasn’t bad. Got the rear flower beds raked out and some other yard work done on Saturday. Still had time to go out on Abby about put a few hours of tootling around the countryside on her, which was nice.

Sunday was kind of a wash. Grey and much colder... Binge watched some old TV sci-fi while getting laundry done.

There a Scouts joke in which a teenager yells, “Gravity check!” then flings himself to the ground, arising to announce, “All good!” and runs off.

I think I’ve done most of the things that urgently need doing today, but I have a niggling anxiety about missing something significant. Should have made a list.

Mrs. ArGee likes lists. She regularly has me make lists. I never remember to look at them.

I like the gravity check. I never saw that one.

Our scouts used to love one where a person would start walking across the “stage” saying “Doggone, doggone, dogGONE”. The MC would ask “What’s the matter?” and he’d say, “My dog’s gone!”

Good morning. Happy Twosday!

I’ll have to show that one to my boss who says her kitteh is always jumping on her keyboard. Now to make the kitteh translucent.

We have lots of sunshine this morning. It’s nice that the sun is rising earlier. It’s not quite up in time for me to walk The Princess yet, but at least it’s up after I get out of the shower.

This at-bat for Wordle Cricket went well. I have 3 runs today, making 4 for the Over.

I thought it was a clever idea.

A friend of Tom’s is going on a trip for a couple of weeks in May. We may get a “loaner cat”. Tom says it’s a nice cat except for biting feet, but I wear shoes, so I’m good.
