Elementary school evacuated after student brought “historic unexploded ordinance” for show and tell
Not The Bee ^ | November 26, 2024 | Staff

No matter what students bring to future "show and tells" at Orchard Junior School in the Southampton area of England, they will never be able to top this year's spectacle that shut down and evacuated the school.

One bonkers little tyke brought in a bit of vintage "unexploded ordinance" to show his mates.

The school quickly evacuated all the students, called the police, and texted the parents:

Schools are being closed & evacuated - please collect your child from Noadswood field ASAP.

Imagine getting that little note in the middle of the school day.

Laura Holloway, a mother of one of the students was at work at the time. She said,

It was so worrying. Another parent had called saying there were police everywhere. I knew my youngest would have been so scared.

But, she added:

Both schools seemed to deal with it all very well and had the kids lined up and checked off - it must have been very upsetting for everyone involved.

Once the students were out, the police showed up and sent in the bomb squad.

The police's full statement said: ‘We were called at about 1.30pm to a report that a child had brought what may have been a potentially unexploded ordnance to Orchard Junior School.

‘The school was calmly evacuated and a disposal team attended to take the item away to be destroyed as a precaution.'

Not an easy task by any means.

The real question everyone wants to know is "What kind of ‘historic incendiary device' are we talking about here?"

This is England after all. They've been blowing stuff up and getting blown up for centuries.

It could've been anything from a 16th-century mortar to a WWII hand grenade to that morning's beans on toast.

Good morning. Happy Monday!

We survived the super-frozen weekend. A warming trend is on its way if the professional weather guessers are correct. It can’t come soon enough.

I’ve noticed there’s some light in the mornings before 7am now. That must mean the time change is coming.

Today’s Wordle was nothing special. I used a throw-away word for guess 3 just to keep moving.

Good Monday Morning!

Yes, I’ve noticed some faint light in the sky before 7AM as well... I like it...

We had been having some trouble with our StarLink lately so they sent us a new one, latest generation... so far so good... worth all the aggravation of mounting a new antennae on the roof and coming through the wall with a new cable... at least Mrs. zz tells me that is so...

A Wordle that took forever for a mundane result...

Happy Monday...

Well... I didn’t work on the Caddy... but I did fix the blinker on my Dodge and figured out why the remote start isn’t working... Part for that is coming in today.

I also changed out the counter top/sink in my upstairs bathroom. Looks much better than the 1970s era counter top that was there. Just have the bathtub/shower stall to do and that project is done. Thinking one of those jetted tubs with a hot water re-circulator to keep the water warm...

This house came with a jetted tub, but without the heat in the water circulators. Filling it drains our water heater. We use it for storage now.

Sounds like a productive weekend... that jetted tub sounds great!

$250 at a local hardware store for an inline water re-heater. $600 for the tub. Probably another $150 for tile. Might swing for a new showerhead too even though I like the one in there now.

Thinking this one mostly due to cost.

Plus, same store sells the re-heater and I'm in this store at least 1-2 a month.

Good morning. Happy Twosday!

If the guesses are correct we’ll reach almost 40 fs today. I hope this polar shift is done for this winter.

Mrs. ArGee and I now have our local driver’s licenses. So I need to go get the cars registered. Hopefully that won’t be too much of a mess.

Based on today’s game you would be forgiven if you wondered if I’d completely forgotten how to play Wordle. I should have gotten this one in 4.

Good Morning!

Our new pup has grown a lot in the 2+ weeks that she’s been here, but she is still quite a bit smaller than Arthur... but they are beginning to play a bit more together...

Have Friday off... and for some reason Monday is apparently a company Holiday... So... 4 day weekend.

Good morning. Happy Humph Day!

There’s nothing like a box to make a place more comfortable for sleeping.

We stayed above freezing last night. It was nice to not have to leave faucets dripping for the first time in two weeks.

We’re off to the DMV to register the cars today. We have to have double the insurance for a while because we’re not allowed to drop NYS insurance until we surrender our plates, but we can’t register here without local insurance. Fortunately I found a company that lets you pay by the day.

Stupid bureaucrats.

At least today I remembered how to play Wordle.

Yes, stupid bureaucrats. Congrats on the Wordle!

We going to do invasive plant removal this morning with the Catawba Land Conservancy. Autumn olive and Ligustrum. I hate Ligustrum with a passion. It will be fun killing them.
